MEAC officials to accept WSSU – Savannah St. Still on the Clock?

Winston-Salem State‘s expected acceptance into the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference should become official this weekend.

A vote on expansion will take place Friday at a meeting of the MEAC presidents and chancellors, and WSSU hopes to know the outcome late that night or Saturday.

Percy Caldwell, the athletics director at WSSU, has been waiting but not worrying about the vote.

“We’ve done all we can do at this point,” he said. “So we are just waiting on the word that we’ve been accepted to the MEAC.”

At the conference’s annual spring meetings last month, the athletics directors voted on expansion, but Caldwell doesn’t know how that vote came out.

“I could have probably found out what the vote was, but I would much rather wait until everything becomes official with the President’s Council vote,” Caldwell said.

WSSU isn’t the only school awaiting word on joining the MEAC. According to reports, Savannah State also has applied to the conference.
