Delaware to Potentially Lose Right to Host Playoff Games

The recent Delaware Sports Lottery bill that was passed, looks like it could very well effect the University of Delaware. The NCAA rules books are fairly straight forward: if you have legal sports gambling in your state, you don’t get to host championship games for college athletics. In FCS football, that means the playoffs…and Delaware has a long history of hosting playoff games.
In a recent interview, Rachel Newman-Baker, the NCAA director of agents, gambling and amateurism activities, was very direct in her response to Montana: “”that was an administrative oversight and it won’t be repeated”.
If you read between the lines, it looks like the NCAA might come down hard on Delaware. They won’t need to go public with a decision until next fall when they know if Delaware or Delaware St. has the regular season success to play in the postseason.
But it will be interesting if a top seed Delaware team is forced to play on the road or a neutral site while the other top seeds get the benefit of home games.
