Detroit will join the MAAC for lacrosse next season. The move looks to be a good fit for the school, as they’ll participate with other private/Catholic schools.

Detroit was set to join the GWLL but when that league was absorbed by the ECAC, Detroit was left looking elsewhere.

If you’re VMI or Detroit, you really need to be in a conference. And the MAAC makes sense. Sure, the ECAC has Ohio St but also far western schools. With the MAAC, you’ve got Canisus and Siena not that far away. VMI would probably want to be in the CAA but they don’t compete at the same level to warrant an invite. There just aren’t enough lax programs to have the perfect conference lineups.

More asinine conference decisions. How do these schools pay for road trips to Virginia, Poughkeepsie, and Detroit?

    Where is the fiscal management?

Mount St. Mary’s and Wagner will still be in the MAAC for 2010. The NEC isn’t going to start sponsoring until 2011, when Bryant’s men’s lacrosse team will be eligible through the fast-track.
