Update (6/8/10): Looks like nothing came out of the meeting today at Colorado. Instead, they simply discussed their options since they did NOT receive an invitation from the Pac-10, which had been rumored to have happened today.
Nothing is set in stone, but based on a meeting that took place today at Colorado, the school is rumored to be on the move to the Pac-10.
If indeed this happens, the Pac-10 will have it’s first school covered in it’s plan to expand. In doing so, they will ensure that Colorado is indeed one of the schools included, despite the recent push by the Texas legislature to have Baylor included instead under the 6 team expansion scenario (Texas, Texas A&M;, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma St.).
It’s a bit of a gamble for the Pac-10 if Colorado is the first school invited. There remains a chance that the Texas/Oklahoma 5 reject a move. The Pac-10 would likely invite Utah as it’s 12th member if that were the case. Such a move had not been deemed profitable for the Pac-10 by their own analysts. But with the recent TV contract boost gained by the ACC ($67 million per year to $155 million), a Colorado/Utah scenario could be more attractive. Of course the “homerun” for the Pac-10 would remain Colorado, Texas, Texas A&M;, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Oklahoma St.
Meanwhile, the Big 12 has given Missouri a June 17th deadline to announce their intentions. The Big Ten has reportedly pushed up their timetable to accommodate the best that they can. But it is not known if the Missouri timetable change will have any effect on the Big Ten’s plans.
