Despite the potential for a Big 12 collapse and schools such as Baylor, Kansas and Kansas St. being available, the Mountain West will officially name Boise St. as it’s 10th member. With this move alone, the Mountain West should secure itself an automatic BCS berth. Boise St. is expected to become a full member starting July 2011.
The addition of Boise St. now gives the Mountain West 10 schools. Should the Big 12 dissolve, the Mountain West might push hard to include both Kansas and Kansas St. if they are left out. They might also choose to expand beyond 12 if they are fortunate enough to gain those 2 schools. Texas schools such as Baylor and Houston could be in the mix at that point to grab a bigger share of the Texas footprint, currently occupied only by TCU.
For for now, it’s Boise St. day in regards to the Mountain West. The move is something they’ve wanted for some time, and the MWC will certainly benefit from the football success of the BSU program.
