According to the Denver Post, BYU could announce this week that they will be remaining in the Mountain West Conference. Such a move would seemingly be the result of the Fresno St. and Nevada defections from the WAC to the Mountain West, moves that unstablized the WAC.

Since the WAC exit fee agreement that the then 8 WAC schools agreed to was contingent on BYU joining, it appears that both Nevada and Fresno St. might now be exempt from paying the $5 million exit fee. You can bet that the WAC will try to contest it though.

    Not so fast, my friend

BYU appears to be going independent for football and joining the West Coast Conference for all other sports. I am sure there is more to come with this story.

Karl Benson has some serious egg on his face. Look for another WAC school to join to get the Mountain West to 12. That would leave the WAC with 5 teams and in serious trouble. I wonder if they would try to get to 16 since the WAC cannot really do anything at this point.
