After seeing three other WAC schools leave in recent months, Hawaii is officially doing the same. The school has announced that they will be leaving the WAC after the 2011-2012 season and joining the Mountain West for football, and the Big West for other sports. The move bring the MWC football membership to 10 schools and the Big West to 10 schools. The migration to the MWC will be a huge boost for the Hawaii program and joining the Big West for other sports will actually decrease the amount of athletics travel for the school.
Meanwhile, the WAC is now down another member. Remaining football schools include Idaho, SJSU, NMSU, Utah St. and LA Tech, along with future football members Texas St. and UTSA. Denver will also be a future member but does not field a football team.
