That comment was for Schomolik, not for Matt. Schomolik said that Temple should turn down a Big East Football only invite. A football only in the Big East is much better then a football only in the MAC. Temple would be lucky to even get a football only re-invite. But I don't think that will happen because the Big East wouldn't look good if the re-invited a team they kicked out.

You lost me. What "logic" doesn't make sense? That the Big East would invite Temple to be a FB only member? The same Temple that they ousted once before? The same Temple that will do nothing to help maintain the Big East BCS AQ? Of course it's an upgrade for the Owls. But for the Big East, even looking at schools like Temple is waiving the white flag.

Temple is already football only in the MAC. Would you rather have them be Football only in the MAC or the Big East? Your logic doesn't make any sense.

Temple would be stupid to get in for football only unless it is absolutely clear the Big East will keep their BCS bid (if the SEC, ACC, etc, were smart, they would try to add Big East members now and guarantee that the Big East loses their BCS bid and possibly leave football altogether).

The most attractive Big East sport is basketball, not football, and Temple basketball is the #1 sport on North Broad. Going to the Big East in football only is no better to me than joining for golf only. I know Villanova doesn't want Temple in but going for football only is not appealing to me. Besides, remember the last time Temple was a football only member? Who's to say the next time Temple goes 2-10 or 3-9 that the Big East kicks them out again? Would you trust them?

Temple has seen three lesser (at the time) basketball schools (Rutgers, West Virginia, and Virginia Tech) get all sport Big East bids before them, got the Big East boot, and then watched the Big East invite four more schools (including South Florida, who hadn't been in FBS that long) for all sports and two more non football schools for all other sports without even thinking of inviting Temple back after the Big East was embarrassed by the ACC.

I don't want Temple to join a league and be a second class member to TCU and South Florida, let alone Rutgers (who except for a few years last decade weren't even a better football member than Temple). If I were Temple's AD, I tell the Big East we want all in or no deal. If TCU and their pathetic basketball program can demand it, so can Temple.

Matt, I'm sure you meant that the Big 12 is interested in West Virginia and Louisville. The Big Ten would never be interested in West Virginia and Louisville and their less than excellence in academics.

If the Big East drops FBS football, do you think Notre Dame will be happy staying with Villanova (assuming they stay), Georgetown, Marquette, and maybe 1-2 more members like Xavier and Butler or do you think that will be the straw to finally push the Irish to a major conference?

It would be interesting if say, multiple schools had announced they were leaving by then, like WVU/UL...resulting in TCU opting to remain in the MWC. All of a sudden, this meeting might require getting CUSA on the horn to discuss football-only membership for the 4 schools...or full membership for 2 of them that might be better fits in CUSA.

Matt,

Even if the Big 12 and SEC both do not have intentions of directly adding a Big East school, the Big East is still certain to lose at least one more football program no matter what. Consider the options:

(1) SEC adds Missouri. Reaction: Big 12 must add two more programs to get back to 10, and getting back to 10 is an absolute necessity. If one of the additions is BYU, the other would have to be a Big East program. (I just do not see the Big 12 adding a C-USA program like SMU or Houston.)
(2) SEC adds an ACC program such as Florida State. Reaction: ACC replaces with a Big East program, likely UConn.

Those are the least-damaging scenarios. Worst case would be the SEC adding West Virginia while the Big 12 adds TCU and Louisville.
