MWCUSA is making a big mistake by letting Georgia State go to the Sun Belt. I know Georgia State is new on the football scene, but Atlanta is a huge market right in the middle of the CUSA footprint, and Charlotte might be another. I also see Georgia State as being practically a mirror image of UAB.

MWCUSA is letting the Sun belt get stronger while passing over Georgia State, and probably UNC Charlotte, because they aren't FBS right now. That shouldn't matter though. This is about the future, not the present, but shortsightedness is carrying the day as usual. College leaders are sometimes dumb.

It's highly unlikely at this point that any MAC schools would be included. The plan is to either have a full merge at 16 schools to 24. If it were to do an alliance for FB only or even a full merge AND expansion from 16 to more schools, the checklist is already pretty much set at the top: #17 & #18 (or #8 and #9 for MWC all-sports) are Utah St. and SJSU. For #9 and #10 for the CUSA side are LIKELY (can't stress that enough), EITHER FIU or FAU, along with North Texas. So that would be a 20 team football conference right there. 20. That's a lot of school. Beyond that, if for some reason there were economic gains in going to 22 or the maximum of 24, you have a pool of schools like UTSA (offers San Antonio market), LA Tech, FAU, New Mexico St., even FCS schools like Charlotte, Appalachian St., Montana and others...not to mention EVERY WAC and Sun Belt school. Now Ohio would be a worthwhile consideration, along with NIU. But it's still a stretch because MAC schools are only in the mix if we're talking a 22 or 24 school conference...which seems like a stretch if the schools aren't coming from the SEC, ACc, B10, P12, B12, etc.

I think if C-USA takes 2 teams from the MAC (Northern Illinois and Toledo would make sense), then Delaware and James Madison will almost certainly be invited to replace them as full members. Perhaps ODU would get a football-only invitation. With George Mason and VCU probably leaving for the A10, the CAA could be in serious trouble.
