St. Louis Hires Majerus
I'll keep this quick and simple. There have been many hirings the past month or so. NONE have been as impressive as the St. Louis hiring of Rick Majerus. St. Louis lacks an NBA team and SLU is the only program that can fill that void. And they got Majerus. Other schools were scared off by Majerus and neve gave him a second worth of thought. But SLU stepped it up and put it all out there for him. Majerus was hired by USC, a Pac 10 school, but then walked away. Majerus could have had virtually any job in America. Look at some of the hirings the past two years. Majerus is a star compared to some of those hired, and could have had ANY job outside of Duke or UNC. Any job. Kentucky would have hired him if they had asked. They didn't. Their losss (and everyone else's) is SLU and the A10's gain. The A10 has been looking for a replacement for John Calipari and John Cheney. They found it. There is a bit of John Calpari that is now shaking his head that he is not going cabeza-a-cabeza with the likes of Majerus...especially with Pitino and Huggins no longer in CUSA with Ole' Cal. Let's hope that this hiring helps form the rivalries with Xavier and Dayton that SLU needs to succeed int he A10. I'm sure it will when Sean Miller is losing recruits to the Majerus regime. All this said, let's hope Majerus is still the SLU coach in tres dias. Fingers crossed.
