Sources say Big Ten expansion could go to 16 teams. They’d dominate the northeast if they added Boston College, UConn, Syracuse, Rutgers and Missouri. Talk about a power play. Adding one school seemed like enough, but adding 3-5 teams might be a better business decision. Crazy week.

Wisconsin AD Barry Alvarez commented on this last week but it’s now official: the Big Ten will officially explore expansion in the next 12 to 18 months. It might seem like a long timeline, but it’s for a reason: making the right choice. And that has to do with existing television contracts and giving time [...]

The Big Ten has no immediate plans to expand, and it would take more than a desire for a football championship game and a longer regular season for the league to add a 12th member, commissioner Jim Delany said. “There are a lot [of schools] that could take a lot away, but there aren’t a [...]

There has been a lot of chatter on the message boards about the Big Ten. In addition to the options Paterno mentioned (Syracuse, Rutgers, Pitt), a few others have often been mentioned. Norte Dame: Yes, Notre Dame is the first choice. Paterno would have certainly listed them first had they not turned down an invite [...]
