Old Dominion Makes it Official – Will Join CUSA

May 17th, 2012 | By | Category: CAA Expansion & Realignment, Conference USA Expansion & Realignment, Featured News, NCAA Conference Expansion & Realignment

After a couple weeks of speculation, ODU will indeed make the expected move to CUSA. They will join in 2013, remaining in the CAA for 1 more year. They will become the 14th member, joining along with Charlotte. The move gives CUSA a stronger eastern presence to offset some of their recent losses. Marshall, ECU, [...]

VCU to Join A10

May 14th, 2012 | By | Category: Atlantic 10 Expansion & Realignment, CAA Expansion & Realignment, Featured News, NCAA Conference Expansion & Realignment

As has been expected for the past month, VCU will announce as soon as this week that they will be joining the A10 as it’s 14th member. The A10 had been in discussions with Butler, VCU and GMU for some time. When Temple left for the Big East, Butler was first tabbed as a replacement. [...]

Should Boise St. Stay (in MWC) or Go (to Big East)?

May 11th, 2012 | By | Category: Big East Expansion & Realignment, Featured News, Mountain West Expansion & Realignment, NCAA Conference Expansion & Realignment

I’ve started to change my position on Boise St. recently. I’m now starting to think that there is some validity to them remaining in the MWC. So it was refreshing to hear that Boise St. has been having the same thoughts and that I’m not a crazy person thinking that Boise St. might be better [...]

Butler to Join the A10

May 2nd, 2012 | By | Category: Atlantic 10 Expansion & Realignment, Featured News, Horizon League Expansion & Realignment, NCAA Conference Expansion & Realignment

As expected, Butler is finally ready to join the Atlantic 10, to replace departing Temple who is headed to the Big East. Butler will join the A10 for the 2013-2014 season, which would be the first without Temple in the A10. The addition of Butler comes at a time when the conference has also considered adding [...]

CUSA to Add Charlotte & Old Dominion

May 1st, 2012 | By | Category: Atlantic 10 Expansion & Realignment, CAA Expansion & Realignment, Conference USA Expansion & Realignment, Featured News, NCAA Conference Expansion & Realignment

Conference USA continues to stockpile schools. It’s hard to imagine that just a few weeks ago, a merger with the Mountain West, combining the 8 MWC schools with the 8 CUSA schools was on the table. CUSA has taken their expansion a step further, going beyond the 12 school total they were set to have [...]

Utah St. & San Jose St. to Join Mountain West

Apr 29th, 2012 | By | Category: Featured News, Mountain West Expansion & Realignment, NCAA Conference Expansion & Realignment, WAC Expansion & Realignment

Utah St. has come close to joining the Mountain West conference twice before. San Jose St. came close once in the past as well. But finally, both schools appear to joining the Mountain West in as close to a “done deal” as can be for now.   The move will bring the Mountain West total [...]

CUSA to add UTSA & Others

Apr 28th, 2012 | By | Category: Conference USA Expansion & Realignment, Featured News, Mountain West Expansion & Realignment, NCAA Conference Expansion & Realignment

Once a idea of a full merger between Conference USA and the Mountain West was put aside in order to preserve NCAA tournament revenues, bids, and conference exit fees, and an economic or even football alliance was favored, it was clear that both CUSA and the Mountain West would need to pull the trigger on [...]

Report: George Mason & VCU to Join Atlantic 10 on May 1, 2012

Apr 20th, 2012 | By | Category: Atlantic 10 Expansion & Realignment, CAA Expansion & Realignment, Featured News, NCAA Conference Expansion & Realignment

When the Atlantic 10 learned it has lost it’s keystone program, Temple, to the Big East, in 2013, the conference knew it needed to do something bold to replace them. But sometimes, when losing a school of so much importance, a single addition isn’t enough. So what’s better than adding Butler, a 2 year final [...]

Breaking Down the CUSA & MWC Discussions

Apr 18th, 2012 | By | Category: Conference USA Expansion & Realignment, Featured News, Mountain West Expansion & Realignment, NCAA Conference Expansion & Realignment

If you’ve been following the developments between Conference USA and Mountain West on this site and other sources, it’s easy to be confused. At first, there was a bold statement about the two conferences formally deciding to work together to form some sort of conference alliance or merger. And the idea made sense: since both [...]

A Look at CAA Realignment

Apr 4th, 2012 | By | Category: Atlantic 10 Expansion & Realignment, CAA Expansion & Realignment, NCAA Conference Expansion & Realignment

In recent weeks, we’ve seen all sorts of CAA realignment action hitting the public. But maybe “action” is too strong a word as it’s been more of a political spin game. First we had news that Georgia St. was on the Sun  Belt radar…which then turned into “the Sun Belt had agreed to a vote [...]
