Over the past few months, everyone has an opinion about about what the conferences will look like when all the realignment is complete. But this past week, we've taken a step closer to having some real movement.

So here's what we know...READ MORE

The MAC is unchanged with the possible exception of Temple leaving as a football-only member.

But the chart is a real worst-case-scenario. I don't see too much actually happening that is on there.

Couldn't help but notice that in your ACC if you swapped Miami and Maryland, the South Division would please the old ACC purists and the North Division would appear very much Big East like!!! Lot's of interesting options to go to 16 teams too. East Carolina could be added to the South to maintain the Carolina-VA-MD thing. Hey, despite Virginia's protests, has the additional of Virginia Tech really been that bad? Would East Carolina joining be any more painful? The North could add newcomer Charlotte or keep the Big East going by including Cincinnati.

Just made me think, doesn't the ACC have a by-law about the school's state of residence bordering the Atlantic Ocean? :?:

ESPN just discussed this
TX politicians are lobbying to have Baylor replace Colorado or they will block the move of the other TX schools.
If that is the senario a Denver writer then see CU, KU and KSU in the Mountain West

My best prediction I've come up with so far for some of these realignments (which will probably be rendered obsolete within the next week):

Pac-16 Pacific Division: Cal, Stanford, USC, UCLA, Wash, Wash St, Oregon, Oregon St
Pac-16 Southwest Division: Arizona, Arizona St, Colorado, Texas, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, OK State

Big 14 West Division: Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, N'western, Missouri, Nebraska
Big 14 East Division: Michigan, Mich St, Ohio St, Indiana, Purdue, Penn State, Rutgers

Big XII North Division: Iowa St, Kansas, Kansas St, BYU, Utah, Colorado St
Big XII South Division: Baylor, TCU, Tulsa, Houston, New Mexico, UTEP

WAC West Division: Hawaii, Fresno State, SJ State, Nevada, UNLV, SD State
WAC East Division: Boise St, Idaho, Utah State, NM State, Air Force, Wyoming

Not sure about the rest, might come up with something later...

I would not think this would happened. There is already major bulking with some PAC 10 members. They do not want Kansas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State and Baylor. This is what I have read. That would mean, Texas and Oklahoma can not make the move. They would let Colorado, Missouri, Nebraska and Iowa State to move on. I do think if they do lose some teams, the replacement teams to get back to to 12 to 16 teams are likelyhood. They could raid some non-BCS conferences with teams that are supposed to be BCS schools, and from like the SEC.

Here are some likely lineups for the Big12.
Teams to add or replaced.
Arkansas Fayettteville and Little Rock viewers
LSU Baton Rogue
TCU
Houston
Tulsa
Air Force \Denver/Colorado Springs
BYU Salt Lake
Rice
SMU
UTEP
Missouri State
UTSA
Texas State
Lamar

The last three might be unlikey, but plussable.

PAC 16 would look like this with the new added teams.
Colorado
Colorado State
Utah
Boise State
UNLV
UNR
Fresno State

If you have noticed? All the top teams from both MWC and WAC have been taken. This may not include La. Tech, Idaho, and Hawaii not included. Some of the Conference USA teams have been taken.

Now, lets look at the SEC? Big 10 also have Vanderbilt on their radar.

Big 10 invites.
Nebraska
Missouri
Iowa State
Vanderbilt
Notre Dame
Rutgers
Pittsburgh
Syracuse
U. Conn.
Maryland
unlikely Central Michigan

If you noticed? The top teams in the non-BCS conferences could be possible to kill the rest of the teams if they get swollowed up by the BCS conferences.

ACC would lose teams.

What would the ACC get?

West Virginia
U.Conn.
Pittsburgh
Cincinatti
South Florida
Central Florida (yes, some ESPN experts think this is likely.)
East Carolina (yes, likely)
Troy (the strongest team in the Sun Belt)
Marshall
Louisville

Now what if the Big East survives? Teams likely going to them?

Delaware
James Madison
Marshall
Memphis
East Carolina
UAB
Troy
Old Dominion
Towson
Georgia Southern
Buffalo
Temple
Villanove
Richmond
U. Mass.
Army
Navy

SEC would take these teams.

Memphis (good basketball program and also put a scare in upsetting some SEC teams like Tennesee and others.)
La. Tech so that they can recover of the lost of LSU.
Arkansas State
Florida State
Georgia Tech
Clemson
Miami Florida

Now, there will be places or spots for more schools to come up to fill in.

Appalachian State
James Madison
Old Dominion (had more people attended to the games than some BCS level schools last year.)
Delaware
Towson
Georgia Southern
Montana (could fit in the MWC as another candidate for a strong team.)
North Dakota State (seems to have more interests to sports in the area since not much of anything else goes on.)
Youngstown State (if not the MAC, Big East should think about them.)
Georgia State to the Sun Belt as a best fit.
Charlotte
Villanova
Cal-Poly
Cal-Davis (was one that was more fit into the California school system. They might be one that could replaced Stanford if Stanford loses football.)
Sacramento State
Texas State
Jacksonville State
UTSA
Lamar
Illinois State
North Alabama (yes, I am still seeing rumors that they are still going to D-1. They already announced their plans from what I read before the meeting. I do think they are still going, and Lambuth could be replacing them.)
Portland State
Oklahoma City U. (yes, they should get an auto to go from NAIA to D-1 quickly since they used to be a NCAA D-1 school, and went down because of money issues.)

The MAC, The Sun Belt and Conference USA would lose some teams to the other conferences, but may still be remained intact.

Some Louisiana schools could be shutting down by next year like LSU-Shreveport, La.-Monroe. Grambling State, Southern U., Nicholls State, N.W. Louisiana State, McNeese State and some others. If that is the case, I think many of the conferences in 1-AA may need to move teams to come up, and replaced them which I think the NCAA should waived the issue for teams to go ahead to upgrade to replaced teams that could be shut down fianancially. This could bring schools like Arakansas Tech, Southern Arkansas, Central Oklahoma and others up quicker than later.

David,

There's some big things going on right now. Check out the homepage and the Pac-10/Big 12/Big Ten threads. The Pac-10 is close to inviting the schools I listed. In fact, those 5 schools joining the Pac-10 is actually the favorite right now...meaning if it DOESN'T happen, it would be a surprise at this point. But yes, it is not final so anything could happen.

I think the Big East might make a big push for Penn State, while Ohio State would push to get Cincinnati into the Big Ten, in order to make the UC-OSU meetings more meaningful.

Both of these moves make great sense geographically. And now, more than ever, the Big Ten needs to convince Notre Dame to join - and even more, Notre Dame fight to get in to the conference.

David, is there a reason all of your recent posts sound like the exact same post repeated over and over again? It seems to me that you do not like the prospect of the Texas/Oklahoma schools going to the Pac-10. I just can't take your analysis seriously when you seem to discount some rumors not for factual reasons but simply because you don't want them to be true.

BTW, the word is balking not bulking.

I'd actually agree with Davids here and have A&M, Texas and Oklahoma all headed to the SEC, but A&M and Texas have become very concerned with Academics recently. Now that they are both AAU the Texas two would like to be surrounded by peer institutions, so this is why they favor the PAC Ten even though location and the bottom line point to the SEC as the better fit.

Larry Scott and Kevin Weiberg met with BOTH Oklahoma and Oklahoma St. admins.

Quote:
"The meeting included OU president David Boren and athletic director Joe Castiglione as well as OSU president Burns Hargis and Pac-10 deputy commissioner Kevin Weiberg."

If all of this wasn't crazy enough let's throw another dmension to it. A school may not bring enough value in television money n their own so let's have a rich alum ante up the rest of the money:

Here's an article by our own Jack on the new conference naming issues.

http://thequad.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/0 ... misnomers/

He also plugs the site here, so thanks again Jack!
