About two dozen Texas lawmakers are supporting efforts to get Houston admitted to the Big 12 Conference.

State Reps. Garnet Coleman and Bill Callegari, both from the Houston area, co-wrote a letter Thursday asking Big 12 officials to consider adding the university to the conference.

"UH is the third largest university in Texas, and is on track to rank among the top research universities in this state," the letter says. "Despite UH's local and statewide prominence, the university does not belong to a strong BCS conference such as the Big 12. The Cougars, the city of Houston, and the state of Texas deserve better."

Houston is a member of Conference USA and was a member of the Southwest Conference until 1995.

They could add Houston and TCU to the Big XII South (creating a Texas division = 6/9 of the old Southwest Conference - all but Rice, SMU and Arkansas).

Bump the Oklahoma schools into the Big XII North and it'd be 6/8 of the old Big Eight (minus Nebraska and Colorado).

Championship game at the Jerry Jones Monster-Dome !!!

Where is the $20 million per school coming from ($40 total)?

That's 4-0. That's more than the total Big East package and only 18 million less than the current Pac-10 contract for 10 schools in LA, SF, Sea, Port, Phx markets.

Oh you're right.... I don't know that the Missouri's and K State's will reel in $20 mill per year, though...
I think they're just happy to still be in a BCS conference.
Texas will rake in Big Bucks if they somehow own a captive TV Network.
Supposedly FOX came to Beebe with the new TV plan...

I think the Conf. Championship Game might garner something on the order of $10 million tops.
At some point I think the BCS Conferences will demand a way of pro-rating BCS Bowl money based on the number of teams in each conference.... which might be motivation for the Big X and Big East to add schools....

I had to laugh at how the $20 million (Colorado + Nebraska exit fees will be distributed)...
Texas, A&M, OU - $5 million each
Tech, OSU - $2.5 million each
Mizzou, Iowa State, KU, K State, Baylor - ZIP !!!!

A clear illustration of who has the leverage in the Big X....

Nebraska is not paying them saying they were forced out. The are ready to go to court. My guess is a deal will be reached for half of the price or around there.
