As anticipated,Ferd Lewis out of Hawaii is reporting(previously reported in another thread) that Hawaii will be joining the MWC for FB and it's other sports will be in the Big West. There has not been an "official" announcement "yet".Link at http://www.staradvertiser.com/news/hawa ... g_WAC.html

Also,Dennis Dodd piece(previously posted in another thread) with comments from Karl Benson regarding the departure of Hawaii from the WAC and what future steps he anticipates the league making to remain viable.Link at http://www.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entr ... a_txt_0001

Fanhouse blog article with comments from WAC Commish,MWC Commish and others regarding Hawaii/WAC/MWC/BWC situation.According to Karl Benson the MWC has not officially accepted Hawaii as a FB only member. He says that the WAC has belatedly offered Hawaii the chance to remain as a FB only member but move it's other sports to the Big West.So far,no "official announcement" from Hawaii regarding their next move.Based on information to date,it appears that Hawaii FB will end up in either the WAC or MWC with their other sports in the Big West. This situation appears to be fluid.Stay Tuned.

Latest from Big West Commish and SDSU President.Based on these comments it looks like there will be more talks before Hawaii can make any conference moves. It could be January or sooner if the WAC starts "stirring the pot".

This means that the Mountain West will have to add a non-football member for balance. Could Gonzaga be calling?

Seattle would be a more fitting geographical pairing, especially if the Mountain West ever wants to go to divisional play with 12 schools; adding Denver as the offset to Hawaii might lead to schools playing in different divisions in different sports.

Denver would be a convenient choice, even more so if they had not just joined the WAC. There would be some concern about market overlap with Air Force, Colorado State, and Wyoming, but at least it's the Denver market being carved up, not a smaller one.

Utah Valley brings very little to the table athletically, but does fill a gap that currently exists in the footprint post-BYU and Utah. Their institutional profile makes it likely they would one day add football, but that would be a long way off at this point.

Cal State-Bakersfield is struggling in its move up to Division I and would not be a realistic candidate.

I doubt any West Coast Conference school leaves unless if BYU gives up on football independence and an invite from a BCS AQ conference.
