SHAKEUP COMING

Relatively quiet until now, the fallout from Miami and Virginia Tech's move to the ACC is about to pick up significantly. As many as four leagues could be affected, with a likely Conference USA overhaul.

Conference USA members Cincinnati, Louisville, Marquette and DePaul are the Big East's prime targets, according to The Boston Globe. That would create a 16-team superconference in basketball, with eight football members.

South Florida (C-USA) or Central Florida (MAC) also could be invited as a football-only member, the report added, thus keeping the Big East's presence in the state.

Other reports say UCF could be a target when Conference USA revamps, along with Marshall and WAC schools Rice, Southern Methodist and Tulsa.

Stay tuned.

When you said ISU, did you really mean to say BYU?

I anyone at USF has any sense, they will steer clear of "football-only" status in the BIG EAST...

The MAC is going to lose UCF and Marshall but what teams are the best candidates after those 2?

would they really need to replace those two if they left. that would leave them with 12. of course it has been speculated that many mac schools would not make the new 1-a requirements, so if they lose more than 4 to the requirements then they will need to start looking for some new members, but until then they are pretty much set.

How does this thought sit with everyone:
a. UCF is gone/should go
b. If the MAC can hold onto Marshall, they'll survive and possibly thrive if they can trim the fat and grow elsewhere (Temple, etc.). If they lose Marshall, there is even less chance their weaker members can sustain 1-A status and the 3-4 remaining decent schools begin their own realignment schemes. ("BE" football after the split?)

Apparently the MAC has issued UCF an all-sports membership.

"Yes, we figured we'd follow the Big East path to success. What's that you say? Miami is leaving the Big East and they're facing membership issues!? Golly. I hope we don't get targeted."

"Marshall University; Phone call on line 2. It's CUSA, wondering what your plans are for the next 20 years."
