Citing "APR" as a possible impediment to MAC membership? Yeah, that would be the reason...also note that Western Kentucky is not a charter member of the Sun Belt; the only remaining (continuous) charter member of the Sun Belt is South Alabama...

What a mess at Temple.

BB, Temple AD, and their Pres. need to be lobbying hard for FULL All-Sports acceptance into the MAC.

Temple allowing their bb coach, Chaney, demand staying in A10 vs an all-sports MAC membership shows Temple, administratively, is not speaking with one solid voice that is in the longterm best interest of the school. The A10 is hardly that much more prestgious in bb than the MAC, they are more on par, and given the circumstances, it should be a nobrainer.

Compare Temples public relations responses to that of Western Kentuckys'. The Hilltoppers certainly say the right things to support their case, whereby Temple lacks cohension, and certainly is no Notre Dame in holding cards for the conferences merry-go-round. The same Temple indecisiveness and impotence, in part, helped get them booted from the fb BE.

The MAC should deliver a firm NO to Temple for fb only. The MAC does not need this; and Temple bb could potentially help the MAC.

Taking Temple for fb only? Maybe the MAC is the conference that will accept anybody for anything.

Even the SunBelt has standards!

How could NCSU make a big deal about having to replace Temple on the fb schedule with MTSU? MTSU may prove to be better competition anyway, and probably would bring more visiting fans.

If I were the MAC, I'd want Temple in as a full-sports member, because Conference USA is likely going to come after Miami University if the Big East invites East Carolina (or Memphis or UAB) into any sort of membership.

WKU could always theoretically be playing I-A football two years from now, but I wouldn't count on it. Ditto for Missouri State or Southern Illinois.

Granted, the Big East doesn't need a 17th all-sports member, but "Football East" would probably have to take a 9th all sports member. I don't think the MAC or C-USA would take too well to having members play everything but football in their conferences.

This is the way things are gonna shake out (from what I've heard).
Temple is not willing to join the MAC in all sports at the moment, partially due to Chaney. However, the MAC knows that the Big East will split in 5 years and steal the top teams from the A10. It is likely Temple will not be one of them, as Villanova already brings the Philly market. Once the A10 is weakened, the MAC will have a much better chance to get Temple to join for all sports. By doing the 6 games a year in FB and a certain amount of games in BB, this simply gets the foot in the door for the MAC.
In addition, because there will not be a full 13th member, there is no need at this time for WKU. However, if they can get Temple to join for all sports, then Western Kentucky will be offered an invite as the 14th member. The MAC has told WKU to upgrade football, and that an invite will be much more likely if this is done.
