From the article:
"The board also will consider a contract revision for ULM head football coach Charlie Weatherbie today. The revised deal would pay Weatherbie a base salary of $75,000 per year through the remaining term of his contract, which ends Dec. 31, 2006.
Weatherbie is near the end of the first year of a 31/2-year contract that paid him $15,000 for 2003-2004 and guaranteed him $20,000 for 2004-2005 and $25,000 for 2005-2006."
Woah! Weatherbie was only getting 15k to coach at ULM!! Pathetic! And now he's up to 75k which is still miserly.
This sounds like one school that does not belong among the ranks of Division I-A.
Weatherbie is getting some serious cash from the Naval Academy. That is the only reason he took the job at ULM.
ULM was in a fiscal mess a few years ago and on the verge of dropping football altogether. Then, they fired the prez that got them in the mess. They hired a good one to replace him, and are just now getting their heads above water again.
This is where Louisiana Tech really blew a chance to wipeout their rival for North Louisiana. Had they come aboard right now, ULM would never be offerred full SBC membership. Now, ULM will benefit dramatically from it, and right at a time when they are getting their finances in order.
Tech blew it.
