How many current WAC programs actually want to be in the WAC? Fresno St, Hawaii, Nevada, Boise State all want to be in the MWC. Rice, Tulsa, SMU left for CUSA. La Tech wants to be in CUSA and UTEP wants to be in both the MWC and CUSA either one that will take them. So that leaves San Jose State as the pillar of WAC Strength? I realize tha affilation of Utah State and NM State (maybe others) are important steps forward for those programs, but talk about a sinking ship....
I'm sure the Unified Press Conference this fall will be a gushing vote of confidence. 8-)
Sadly, I must agree with you PackMan. It grieves me to say so but it is obvious from past statements from each school that all these teams want to "move up" to various other conferences.
Fresno State, Boise State, Hawai'i, Nevada, UTEP...not a bad core for a conference if they could all agree to stay together. NMSU and USU both bring historically strong bb programs as well, but need help in fb. SJSU and (maybe) Idaho are real problems, but all non-BCS conferences have those. IF, that is IF, they can somehow remain united I could see the WAC giving the MWC a run for their money in as little as five years.
Alas, I think perhaps they can't see the forrest through the trees. :'(
