Thanks for the news, Fresno.
So, now do you want FSU to stay in the MWC or hope for a replacement bid to the crumbling nBE? What's SDS going to do?

So I have an excel sheet with the conferences in a pecking order after the "safe" conferences (SEC/B1G/P12) then its B12, ACC, nBE, MWC, CUSA, MAC, and the SBC.

And with the exception of 2010 when the Big 12 was temporarily in danger of losing teams to the ACC/nBE I've never had to change a conference's position in the pecking order but if the MWC gets SDSU back they are at least equal to the nBE, and if they take Houston and SMU then they will be the defacto #6 conference in all of college football.

my #1 want was that BSU and SDSU stayed, but if they left, I'd rather go w/ them than be in a lesser conf.

I prefer geography over strung out conferences, since I have a minor in it.

Well, the 16 school all-sports East/West conference idea is dead.

Maybe the MWC will step it up with a Boise St., SDSU, Houston and SMU expansion to get to 14, get those Dallas and Houston markets into the mix.

you think they'll want to come west? BE is basically the good version of CUSA that they preferred over the MWC. So if they say no, do we take Tulsa and UTEP?

I'm thinking that BYU is top priority now that BSU is back. If they can get BYU for 12, then it might be worth getting Houston and SmU for 14 and UTEP an SDSU for 16. But if its SDSU for 12, it might be worth bringing in the Texas pair only since they provide 2 large TV markets.

I agree though, Hou/SMU might be better off with the former CUSA schools plus UConn and Temple in the big East. Less travel, bigger markets. But it might be a lower TV revenue value.

BYU is priority #1, and is the only reason SDSU isn't automatically back in the MWC. SDSU will most likely still get invited back but only if BYU says no and BSU says yes.

I'm under the opinion that the MWC needs to freeze BYU out. Join the conference or find new games.

BYU has all but one game in their 2013 schedule set so they won't join next year since it will be too hard to get out of that many games.

But in 2014 (1st year of new playoff/BCS system) they play..
AQs: Texas, Virginia
MWC: Utah St, Hawaii, Boise St, and UNLV (plus possibly Houston)
others: Houston, MTSU, SoMiss, UCF
STILL NEED TO SCHEDULE: 2
w/o MWC teams: 6 (or 7 w/ UH)
It would be easy to drop some of those non-AQ games and just a play full MWC schedule.

2015 they play:
AQs: Nebraska, Michigan
MWC: Boise St, Utah St, Hawaii, and UNLV
others: SoMiss
STILL NEEDS TO SCHEDULE: 5
w/o MWC teams: 9
They could keep every game already on the schedule and could still play a full MWC schedule.

But w/o the help from the MWC schools there is no way BYU could remain independent as the bigger conferences are going to make it hard for anyone w/o a ND/ACC deal to remain indy unless they schedule 2 FCS teams, Army, Navy, Idaho, NMSU, and ND every year.

Time to play hard ball. No ACC/ND scheduling deal for BYU.

Hearing on talk radio that Houston to the Mountain West is a real possibility, and UTEP may be the tag-a-long NOT SMU.

Rice would then join the nBE w/ Tulsa and reunite with Tulane/SMU

I doubt BYU will be returning to the MWC anytime soon if at all; but no telling what unfolds with all the shifting mess. Certain MWC schools shall continue to play them because of more lucrative games and exposure.

As to the fallen east-west ideas (C-USA/MWC alliance, BE transcontinental, etc.), such would be difficult even with prominent high-powered, named schools--or a dozen Notre Dames' that don't exist.
Configurations of largely second tier schools, some of which may pull in around 30,000 per game, (+/-), need to focus on and cultivate geographic friendly rivalries---for all-sports. Most of these schools don't posses an abundance of jet-set alumni with the interest and means to do otherwise.

In such cases for proposed, lesser substance national structures, it may be less about what the TV industry is advising them to do; rather, more about damaged conferences and also-ran ambitious institutions trying to put together something to sell that holds some fundamental flaws they hope shall get over-looked.
