I think that the Sunbelt's plan is that Coastal Carolina will be ready by the time they put NMSU and Idaho on the curb. In 2018 they will play a nine-game full round robin schedule and have a title game hosted by the team with the best record per the Big 12 addendum. They probably better make that plan official now so that the member schools can start scheduling accordingly.

I hate the 8 game round robin BS. I am usually a good attender for the Texas State bobcat games, but I cannot support this idea. I am now going to boycott SBC games as a protest. Not that that matters much to the SBC.

What would you prefer then? Would you rather see the Sunbelt add two more western teams to make things more regional for the Bobcats?

I would have preferred to keep New Mexico St., and add one more like Missouri St.
I also would like for the BB only schools to leave.

Replacing UALR and UT-A with NMSU and Missouri St would maintain the East/West balance. I like it.

Sincerely, I have no absolute comment about this after reading it.

If they get raided from the big xii expansion domino; the SBC conference could be short of the minimal 10 teams necessary for a CCG
And a 9 game conference schedule limit their exposure to the $ of P5 games, as well as the better exposed G5 teams

They would be better off as a 12 members conference, two 6-teams divisions and a 8 games conference season

If the SunBelt were to somehow lose schools due to a "cascade" following a Big XII expansion, there's always EKU and NMSU out there....

NMSU Still has a year or two left as a SunBelt FB affiliate.
They aren't rushing their next move (I think) because there is still potential for an opening to suddenly occur....

Will Coastal's stadium issues keep their entry delayed at all?
Is there a reason the Belt would take Coastal over NMSU? NMSU being already a DI FBS memeber...with a fully built stadium?? That deal totally baffles me.

I'm really having a tough time not blasting Karl for the f'd up way he has gone about building this conference. Sure, I love the addition of App St, Texas State and Georgia State....but, the rest of his moves have seemed to work against the conference more than helped it. Karl lets schools in...just to let them out. He thinks up plans....implements them....just to completely drop them later. Then, adds FCS schools while dropping FBS schools. Seems more like a drunk at the wheel than a Commish at the helm.

OK, Karl could NOT have done a worse job in his time with the WAC. Everything he touched seem to turn to crap.

So when Wright Waters left the SunBelt, Karl jumped ship about as fast as humanly possible.

Honestly, when you bear in mind that the SunBelt in the low man on the FBS totem pole, and CONSTANTLY getting picked over by CUSA,
Karl (in my mind) has actually done a coherent job creating a SunBelt with a decent geographic footprint.
I think he pulled in a lot of old WAC teams because:
a) they were FBS schools that just happened to be available, and
b) maybe he felt guilty of owing their presidents / ADs a courtesy after luring them up to the ill-fated WAC.
(certainly he's been "taking care" of Idaho and NMSU football).

I think things above the SunBelt have settled down, and the remaining moves may involve:
BYU to Big XII or back to MWC (no trickle down effect)
Cincy / Houston to Big XII (could be replaced by UMass with no trickle-down effect)
If CUSA lost a school to AAC, MWC might swoop in and grab UTEP and CUSA could hold at 12....
So maybe the SunBelt can be stable for a while.

I expect NMSU to join the Big Sky or Summit, once the Big XII makes their move, and any trickle-down realignment sorts itself out...
