SBC MB thread discussing Georgia Southern's "major announcement" scheduled for this Wednesday morning at 9 AM.Link at http://csnbbs.com/showthread.php?tid=626362

Finally! Let's get the ball rolling these next couple weeks!

I can't help but notice the Sun Belt footprint has tightened up considerably and no invite to App State. While sitting at 8/10 seems odd, if the Sun Belt gets the same share of the pot as the other Little 5 conferences, wouldn't it make more sense to keep the conference small? And with the small footprint they cut down on travel costs as well. Could be win-win.

CBS's Chris Dodd is saying that Idaho and New Mexico St are getting football only invites. For the Sunbelt's sake I hope that this is a temporary contract--they don't want to be permanently stuck with the Vandals. It's probably with the condition that that Idaho and NMSU pay travel subsidies to all of the SBC teams that visit them.

If it were up to me I would just play full round-robin for 9 conference games and forget about fb-only invites.

I thought this might happen, still wish they had just straight up added NMSU and passed on Idaho.

Still need a FCS replacement for WKU after Tulsa leaves CUSA and they replace them...I'm guessing that since these announcements are coming out that they know who is on deck.

West -Texas St, Ark St, ULL, ULM, UTA(Idaho), UALR(NMSU)
East -SoBama, Troy, GA St, GA So, App St, ???

Assuming they don't go past 12 I think all Western schools are out - Lamar, Sam Houston St, Missouri St, NMSU (full member).

That leaves...
Solidifying footprint schools:
Jacksonville St (unlikely with 2 AL schools already in the conference)
UT Chattanooga (I'm starting to wonder about this one)

Expanding footprint schools: (Doubting these now with the fb only moves)
Liberty
James Madison

shocked at the Idaho add. Sucks for NMSU too, they still have everything else stuck in the WAC. So 11/11 setup, 12th full member is coming, who is it? JMU, Jacksonville St., Missouri St., SHSU, Lamar?

My money is on JMU. App State is the only one without a travel partner right now so I'm sure the next school will be in that area.

I like JMU too but I don't think w should be selling them as a travel partner for App St.

Liberty and UTC are closer.

Thinking that UTC/JMU are on deck. (Southland must be happy, if only they can hold onto Oral Roberts)

I doubt they want Liberty even if they are closer. Does UTC want to move up?

According to two separate reports...next in line are

http://www.sbnation.com/college-footbal ... e-sun-belt

As for further Sun Belt expansion, SB Nation's Jason Kirk was told by a source in February that James Madison, Jacksonville State, UT-Chattanooga, Idaho and New Mexico State have been considered, likely among others.

Which was confirmed by this FOIR by appstatenation
http://www.appstatenation.com/2013/02/0 ... andidates/

As for does UTC want to move up, I can't find anything from the school says yes or no but another report I read (sry can't find) said they contacted the Sun Belt so I would assume so, espcially in light of GA Southern/App St moving up and Charleston and possibly Davidson moving out. I'm not sure Mercer, ETSU, VMI, or Kennesaw will appeals to them. Either they move up or I bet they also move out to the OVC.

App St to UTC is 5 hours and App St to JMU is 6 hours. Neither make great travel partners but it's workable. Even the distance between the Texas schools is about 4 hours.

Someone needs to grab JMU and get into Virginia. Come on MAC stop sitting on your hands and do something!
