I also thought you all might find this interesting. I looked at each conference's combined record against the Power 5 and against other Group of 5 conferences. Here are the results through last week:

vsP5 remaining vsGo5 remaining
Amer. 3-15 1 5-9 1
MWC 4-17 0 10-5 5
C-USA 0-20 2 16-3 2
MAC 4-20 0 4-10 0
SBC 1-14 3 3-10 3
Indy 2-4 2 6-7 9

Here are the poll results thus far. It's not too late to vote though--I can always add in the results of another ballot.

1. ECU 45 (3)
2. Marshall 41
3. Colorado St 39
4. Boise St 37
5. Air Force 30
6. UCF 26
7. GA Southern 23
T-8. NIU 22
T-8. Utah St. 22
10. Arkansas St 14
11. Nevada 12
12. Middle Tenn 11
13. Bowling Green 10
14. Temple 9
15. Houston 7

also receiving votes--Toledo 4, Akron 3, S Alabama 2, BYU 2, UAB 1

The top stayed relatively unchanged from last week. The MWC leads the rest of the Group of 5 in teams ranked with 5 including the bottleneck at spots 3-5. The American comes in 2nd with 4 ranked teams, albeit 2 of them were #s 14 and 15. The MAC, SBC, and C-USA all had two ranked teams.

As far as comparing the voters, RoboConstant must not be sold on the NIU Huskies as he had them unranked while BePcr and I both had them as 6th. Middle Tennessee and Bowling Green were also teams that there seemed to be varying opinions on.

I'd love to hear your thoughts about the poll and where teams finished.

If things remain as they are, does Marshall ever surpass ECU? Like, is there a point where losing to 'SC is finally considered a blemish warranting criticism over their hype? I mean, I love that ECU is on a tear this year, and Marshall's got a soft schedule in a down year for CUSA, but is there at least some room for debate?

I don't really care for in-season rankings, but let me suggest the following scoring methodology for G5 football:

For games against FCS opponents:
Win: 0 points
Loss: -2 points

For regular-season games against G5 opponents:
Win: +1 point
Loss: -1 point

For games against P5 opponents:
Win: +2 points
Loss: 0 points

For CCG:
Win: +2 points
Loss: 0 points

Score all teams and rank accordingly.

If there is a tie for first at end of season, then compare based on specific opponents.

Strength of schedule is very important to me and so are wins against the Power 5. ECU and Colorado St both put together challenging schedules and did well, beating 2 Power 5 opponents. To me the loss against South Carolina doesn't really bother me. Plenty of other Go5 schools lost to Power 5s; ECU and Colorado St won games they weren't supposed to win. Marshall scheduled a weak slate and did what was expected of them--they won. That's just how I see it.

If you want to put in a ballot for last week I'd be happy to factor it in with the others.

Polls definitely have their flaws. I hate pre-season and early season polls because they are pretty much based on helmet logos and no actual performances. I also hate the way pollsters only rearrange their votes when a team above another team loses. I purposely waited until after 5 weeks of play to start this poll so we could see how teams actually performed. Polls certainly need to have some mathematics involved in determining where teams fall. Part of my evaluation process was awarding +1 for Go5 wins and -1 for Go5 losses. I also awarded a +1.5 bonus for a power 5 win and -1.5 for a FCS loss. I didn't let the formula dictate my final vote though. If I felt a school from one conference played better competition than a team above them than I passed them up. Take South Alabama for example--they are 4-2 but they have played some of the worst Go5 schools so I don't consider those wins quite as valuable as say the murderers' row that is the MWC mountain division.

Like I told Bishin Cutter, you are welcome to cast a vote. Something that would add strength to this poll is more votes from more college football fans who follow the sport.

I don't know if I could faithfully vote for teams 11-15. Ranking becomes far more difficult after the top 5, and almost indecipherable after 10 at this point. I mean, heck, if on SOS alone, Navy would be ranked in my poll. And the Marshall issue...there might be a point where I'd have CSU leapfrog them.
