Notre Dame has done extremely well with their NBC contract. I don't even think Texas could do nearly as well as the Irish do if they decided to go independent (unless NBC decided to pick up their home games exclusively as well).

BYU is definitely in that black hole between the P5 and G5. Them, along with Boise State, get better deals thanks to ESPN but still aren't close to P5 money (and never will be unless there is a major realignment in the future).

With the way things look with top-tier college football, I think both NMSU and UMass should take a page out of Idaho's book and drop back down to FCS.

Army is a tough one, what with their contract with CBS Sports Network which makes them more valuable than, say, a UMass. Navy has the same deal but it only lasts for one more season whereas Army's new contract lasts through 2019 with CBSSN. Saying that, the AAC was fine with Navy keeping their CBSSN contract through until completion so I can't see why they wouldn't with Army if the AAC invited them as FB only.

""Hey, we're a private school. All we gotta do is raise the tuition. Just mention that we will be the 'Protestant Notre Dame' and the alumni and parents will love the move!"

Liberty will churn out more online degrees and classes.
They make good money from that.

The Sunbelt showed they did have some standard of
academic integrity. Fortunately they did not bring LU
onboard.

I always thought Youngstown State would be a perfect fit in the MAC.

If Jacksonville State was really intent on FBS, they missed the boat by not aggressively pursuing the #12 spot in the Sun-Belt, which eventually went to Coastal Carolina.

Article from JMU paper(previously posted in another thread)discussing difficulty of obtaining an FBS conference invite.Unclear whether they would consider trying to be an FBS Indy like Liberty until they could snag such an invite.Link at http://www.breezejmu.org/sports/jmu-ath ... d0778.html

Well, NOT JUST ANY FBS Conference !!!

Back before the SunBelt expanded with Coastal Carolina, JMU might've snatched that spot, but I'm pretty sure they made it clear that CUSA WAS intriguing, but NOT the Sun-Belt.
Perhaps CUSA was desired, so they could establish rivalries with ODU and UNC-Charlotte.

CUSA briefly had a spot open, until UAB determined they would NOT be dropping football, after all.

MAYBE Liberty and JMU figure they could become Sun-Belt's 11th and 12th FB schools. Then if Sun-Belt and CUSA realigned into a SE-based conference, and a Texas-centric conference, they would be in with even more regional competition - Appy State, Marshall, Western Kentucky, etc...

It's hard being an "upwardly-mobile" school trying to claw one's way into FBS, because you have little or no leverage.
You're sort of left to beg conferences to let you in.

With some p5 conferences limiting fcs games, it may make financial sense for some fcs teams to move up despite the anticipated beatings
