You'd think if mankind can transmit messages all over the place via fiberoptics and other mediums, that they could figure out how to channel a few gallons of water from the biggest salt-water resevoir on the planet only a few hundred miles away.

BYUFan227, agreed and with all the academic might of the Pac 10, taking the salt out of the Pacific should be a cake walk. Guess its more expensive that we realize or just easier for California to take water from the Colorado that is meant for the other western states.

Maybe Pac 10 expansion should be based on how many shares of the Colorado river a state gets depends on how many teams a state gets into the Pac 10!

If the PAC 10 expands to twelve, it will be based on the Big 10 going to 12, and their own decision, or external pressure, to have a championship game. The desire to expand will have to well surpass the appeal any two given schools may offer.
There are many teams the PAC 10 could consider as to expanding. However, there are perceived drawbacks with each, be it matters of size, academics, location, etc.

If the PAC-10 were to expand, UC Davis would be the most likely candidate, partly due to the same political pressure that got Va. Tech in the ACC. Colorado St. would be in the lead for the other spot.

Cal-Davis ???
Looks like you been smoking a few of those "j's"

UCD is a move-up D-II school that is a couple years away from full D-I status.

The Pac-10 has no true legitimate choice for schools 11 and 12, nor are they looking. Utah is the only institution close, and they would need a travel partner NOT named BYU.
8-)

Right about now if I were the PAC-10 and ever thinking about expanding, I'd make the call into BYU and Utah. Utah is the hottest thing out there in the non-BCS world. I guess ideally, you'd still "feel" out a Colorado and BYU combo, but that's doubtful.

But if Utah were ever in the mix (will never happen), I'd make part of the deal be that Meyer has to stay. Once he's gone, Utah is back in the basement.

Utah I could definately see joining the Pac 10.

BYU, maybe, but why? What do they have that's so good to offer?

Since last year's basketball performance, I would think, for that reason, that Nevada might be a possible choice. The PAC 10 should want to upgrade it's bball image and both Nevada and Utah could help there.

Who in the world is UC Davis? Do they play football?

UC-Davis is a former Division II power who just moved up to Division I. They're a top flight university academically. With 25-30k in students just outside Sacremento, they actually fit the profile of a Divison I-A school. But, of course, California doesn't support football too well. I suspect they will stay I-AA. And the Pac 10 would NOT invite another California school.

The Pac 10 only takes the flagships of public university systems.

Berkely and UCLA are definately that while Davis is a regional school.

Are Oregon State and Washington State really considered "flagships?"

Of course, just like Arizona State.

I don't know that Oregon State-Washington State have the comparable in-state standing of an Arizona State or even a Florida State...

They do. Remember that Oregon only has 2 million people.

All they really have are UO, OSU and a couple regional schools (PSU,WOU, etc.).

Pretty much the same thing for Washington. UW, WSU and some regional schools.

Is this conversation about academic stature or student enrollment? I thought it was about academic stature...
