It's really a short list:

1. Notre Dame
2. Notre Dame
3. Missouri
4. Notre Dame
5. Syracuse
6. Notre Dame
7. Pitt
8. Well, you know

As if the Big12 was a worse conference than the Big10... ss if Mizzou didn't have a super strong rivalry with Kansas...as if Mizzou wasn't Big12 country.

You guys are nuts.

The old chancelor was a Michigan State graduate and he thought the Big 10 was superior than the Big 12.

Missouri is very unlikely to get invited, but I am sure they would still go if invited.

The Big 10 is much better than the Big 12 in $. The football TV contract is more than double the Big 12 contract. It is much more prestigious in academics. In football its tougher in the middle while a little weaker at the top. And I'm a Big 12 fan so don't give me any nonsense about bias.

The contract with Fox Sports Net, the undue influence in the hands of the Texas schools, the trivializing of the Kansas-Missouri and Nebraska-Oklahoma football rivalries, the unbalanced schedule in men's basketball, the rotating interdivisional schedule in football, the ignorance of the fact that the "newly-formed" conference was really just an expanded Big 8?

Mizzou-Kansas is too strong. The XII won't let that get away.

If we're assuming this is a list of "if we could get anyone," Nebraska is the clear #2 choice behind Notre Dame.

Despite any claims otherwise, it's about Football, first and NOTHING ELSE second.

They want a "legend" like Penn State to pump up the FB TV deal. That's really all there is to it. Any "academic" items are just a smokescreen to make it all seem more noble than it is.

They are not even looking for a basketball history when it comes to #12, but they would take that to use as an excuse to deflect that it's all for football.

They would take a team that would bring in more eastern viewers, but they'll take the historical elite first:

1. ND
2. NE
3. Pitt/Syracuse
4. Mizzou if desperate

You're right about football but wrong about academics. The Big 10 wants a prestigious major research school. If you pass that hurdle, then it looks at football. UNL until recently was open admission. They are still relatively open. UNL does a fair amount of research, but they are not selective and that disqualifies them. The Big 10 would not take them. Nebraska fans will tell you the same.

Notre Dame basically is the only team the Big 10 wants. And I bet they will get them.

Yeah, the Texas schools have way too much influence and that is basically bc of the Oklahoma/OSU siding with them instead of its former Big 8 mates.

The Big Ten commish may want ND. The Big Ten fans may want ND. Even the ND fans may want the Big Ten. However, none of this is relevant. What is relevant is do the Big Ten PRESIDENTS want ND in their conference. And from my readings of Cybercat's articles, I'm inclined to think that the Big Ten presidents DO NOT want ND in their conference. It put too many powerhouses in one conference all for the sake of a conference championship game and tv ratings.

"all for the sake of a conference championship game and tv ratings"

Are you kidding me?

What do you think the presidents want?! As much as they do like to see their teams winning, they care about money first and foremost.

Championship game = HUGE $$$$$$$$. Why do you think ACC went to 12?

Higher TV ratings = bigger TV contract = HUGE $$$$$$$$$$$

Why do you think the BCS exists? Big TV contracts is why.

Please refrain from using profanity on this forum. It does not help to make your point. :)

No, I'm not wrong here. It makes a nice story but has little to do with FB #12. With the CSC, the B10 powerbrokers think they can help turn a school into a major reasearch university.

If there is one thing ND isn't, it's a major research school. The ND faculty voted in favor of joining so they could become one.

The only thing that matters when talking about who the big research schools is if you're rated as "Carnegie Doctoral/Research Extensive". These are the major players when it comes to academic research.

University of Notre Dame is CDRE.

Sorry ND is not a major reaserch university. It is not even close. Those universities are found in the AAU .All 11 b-10 schools are AAU.ND likes the BE and the money it makes there.Do not forget 1999 when nD turned the b-10.
