No. I want to say I read somewhere that they said they would go to 12 teams if the Big 10 did. The Big 10 wants ND. ND has a TV contract that allows them to reject the Big 10 indefinitely.

Although the Pac 10 likes being similar to the Big 10, there is no motivation for them to take on an 11th school as it only complicates matters.

If the Pac 10 felt they really HAD to expand to 12, there would be some problems. They had really wanted UT (except for Stanford) and were very willing to admit colorado (another top notch school to get both). I think UT is attached at the hip to A&M now though, so I don't think they would do that. Additionally, I think taking on UT and A&M would be just too far out of their footprint.

The Pac-10 has done a lot of partner school admissions, so Utah/BYU and Colorado/CSU would fit in that. All four schools are good tier 2 academic schools and would not fit in academically. BYU doesn't play on sunday and that could be an issue. CSU is a lesser academic school than the other 3 and a lesser athletic program.

The best arrangement for the PAC 10 might be to add Colorado and Utah--- giving them almost every good market in the SW, but it doesn't really go with their pairs of schools theme, and there is no guarantee Utah would be allowed to join if they were leaving BYU behind.

I don't see any spur to get the PAC 10 to expand anytime soon. I actually see the ND situation stalling Pac 10 expansion indefinitely.

If the PaC 10 were to elevate to the PAC-12 I think it would have to be from within CA university system...maybe UC Davis, UC San Diego or a private school like Santa Clara. No chance a state school gets in.

Why no chance for a state school?

Don't San Diego State, Cal Tech and the Cal Poly's, all part of the California State Univeristy system have higher academic requirements than the majority of the UC's?

And isn't San Diego State a D1 school in sports?

The Cal State system actually has a lower academic reputation than the U of Cal system. Six of the UC's are in the Top 50 nationally in terms of academics. The Cal State system has lower admission requirements than the UC system (although some of the campuses have their own requirements). That is one reason that a CSU campus will NEVER be in the Pac 10.
