I don't think anyone's leaving the SEC. Like, ever again.

The other thing is, we - as human beings - tend to crave order and symmetry. And people interested in conference realignment, even more so**

But the thing to remember is that each organization is self-serving. Four conferences of 16, each in 4-team pods is nice, neat and orderly. But the schools and commissioners don't give a damn about orderly if it costs them MONEY or success in sports (which gets them money).

The idea that any conference would rather have THE MAP dictate the "pods" / number of times each team plays (aka their TV inventory!) instead of "picking the best match-ups to put on TV/get the most NCAA bids) are basically zero.

Notre Dame isn't going to say "there's 4 conferences with 4x4x4x4 groups? We'll give up our football independence just to complete the balance/symmetry."

PRO sports will re-align for balance and symmetry, because they're all members of one league and they want something that makes sense for the schedule markers. But there's also a united guiding force for that: The league office.

Conference realignment is NOT musical chairs, because there's no overlord that stops everyone's music. Each conference decides for themselves. And they're NEVER going to have a perfectly aligned system, because the whole thing is just a capitalist endeavor to gain more money/power/success.

** - We're sports fans, but ALSO have this extra layer of interest in the configuration of leagues? I'm guessing if we did a study of college sports message boards, this site would lead in "Percentage of posters with some form of OCD."

West Virginia is going to be the odd man. They are not priorities for the SEC or ACC.

Texas is not going to remain in the B12 without Oklahoma. There is no alternative that can be added that would keep Texas in the B12.

As an ACC fan, the scenario in the OP sucks. We get ND for 3 more games and Cincy. I'm not saying anything bad about Cincy but...no.

There may be some contraction in the next round. Schools like Wake Forest, Washington State, etc. may be left out. Some may choose to get off the merry-go-round for academic reasons.

Texas was in the SWC without UO for many years...after UO left the SWC. Texas and Oklahoma will still play their annual game no matter what conferences they are in.

Texas doesn't want to leave their State of Texas brothers. Why would you think they would? Has UofTexas said they wanted to leave their brothers? I think not. So, where are you getting these ideas?
