Assume that Baylor got voted out of the Big XII for troubles surrounding its basketball program. Who would you look for a replacement? To everyone that posts on this board, you can decide.

Invite Colorado St., Arkansas and TCU. Is that another one of your Games?

TCU - Arkansas might turn down the vote (less $$$ in the Big XII), and TCU would be a sure thing.

This is really the wrong board for this question...but...

Politically the only way this happens is through the support of at least one Texas school (would take 9 votes to oust Baylor). To get a Texas school to support you would have to have a Texas school lined up to replace Baylor.

Therefore TCU is your only logical choice, if not necessarily your best choice.

1. Obviously, the first choices are LSU & Arkansas, but I dont' see either one leaving the SEC.

2. I discount private schools because they lack the politcal pork a goverment can bring to bear to help a school get/stay conpetitive: TCU, SMU & Tulane are out.

3. That leaves 3 choices in the area: New Mexico, Colorado State and Houston.

4. New Mexico has been good in BB, but has not done much in FB, the Big 12's lifeblood. The school is about as far from TX Tech and Baylor, so that does keep a "rival" for them in the area.

5. Colorado State has had recent FB success. Adding them means moving Mizzou to the South and away from their closest rivals.

6. Houston stinks now but was playing FB & BB at an elite level 20 years ago. They are in a state that does like to spend money, so they may be able to get something from the government to enable them to push more $$$ into athletics.

At this stage, my vote is for Houston.

My bet Baylor stays put. Otherwise, Colorado State. Next, UTEP (yes, them seldom football winners). Forget, Arkansas, Air Force, and LSU (ain't going to happen).

To replace Baylor, I'd go after TCU more than likely
If Missouri bolted to the Big Ten, I would bring in BYU.

All the media from Utah have always implied that BYU/Utah seem to have an agreement that one will never jump without the other... Twould cause a lot of hard feelings if BYU jumped on its own....

I agree with the general sense of the board that TCU is the next Texas school poised for BCS memberhsip, but one thing confuses this non-Texan: How, in the grand scheme of things, are they different from Baylor? Is it simply the Dallas vs Waco thing? I mean, both are reputable schools with strong football roots in the state, but are they not both small schools that are still somewhat out of place athletically with the likes of Texas, Oklahoma and Colorado? It's not as if Baylor was always bad at football, and TCU could meet the same fate, right?

Could someone clarify for me...

Baylor is the Texas Baptist school...

SMU is the Texas Methodist school...

TCU is the Texas Christian school...
just what brand (denomination) of Christian are they?
I assume they are not catholic, otherwise we would have heard about in the "catholic league" speculation (grin)... Presbyterians? Pentecostals?

[asked with utter respect of course]
???

TCU was originally founded by a denomination called the Disciples of Christ. In recent times though, the school has had less and less to do with the denomination.

I'm not too sure about that. As long as BYU continued to play Utah in all-sports, they might be able to get away with it. I have always believed that BYU and Utah will wind up in different leagues, much like South Carolina and Clemson, no matter what the Utah media says. Utah has been eyed by the Pac 10 and BYU makes for a much better fit in the Big 12.

To me, it would be more logical if I went for a southern school (i.e. TCU and Arkansas) so that we wouldn't mess the divisions up, the only way we get a school from the north is to go to 14, that would mean adding another southern school and adding one of the northern schools. (i.e. BYU and Colorado State)

Excellent point, gunnerfan. In fact, TCU is about half the size of Baylor. . . & has to compete with the Cowboys for attention. :(

Agreed. I would also explore BYU.
