Good discussion, guys. I also think a consideration going into the BCS negotiations will be the fact that the BE will likely not look the same, thus CUSA will not look the same and so on. Half the posts on this web site have been proposing alternatives for moving from what are now considered 4-5 weaker conferences to 2-3 stronger ones. We need only time and political shuffling to determine which conferences stay alive.
As a result, the prospect of the BCS adding additional conferences, with a possible 5th bowl (How come no one mentions the Cotton Bowl?) may become more palatible. Especially if the overall monies can increase, which they could if the BCS does involve more schools, more states, more markets and less controversy.
Especially as this shuffling occurs, timing and the consideration of other schools will play a part in NDs status. If the bball schools from CUSA and BE work out their proposed merger separate from the fb schools, there'll probably be a space for ND which could make everyone happy. If they don't, or if ND can't find a home for their other sports, the Big 10 may finally look attractive.
