Wouldn't this be suicide for Duke and the effect that this would have on its b'ball program. The ACC is not going to pull a Big East and allow for a different slate of schools in football and b'ball. It would seem to me that Duke would put up with whatever lack of success it had in football to keep itself part of Tobacco Road, and the effect that affiliation has on its national prominence. (a similiar, if weaker, argument could be raised about Wake)
The other question on this whole issue would be UNC. I would think that Carolina would lay over backwards from losing an in-conference rivalry of the quality of UNC-Duke (obviously in relationship to those 2 b'ball games, but also, to a degree, to football.....next door neighbors means the rivalry exists in virtually all sports, like Cal-Stanford).
