Big East needs to move soon because if they don't expansion will be gone and they will be inviting the teams from the MAC that make the requirments.

The way the MAC teams are playing, that might not be so bad. ;)

Discussion on some other boards has speculated the fate of the MAC should they lose Marshall. Dropping UCF would not disrupt their regional dynamics or much of student travel to away games. Losing Marshall as well reduces the number of marquee programs to basically Toledo and a combination of NIU, Miami and Bowling Green (depending on who's having the better year.) To say nothing of the schools that might lose their 1-A status.

Should the BE lose BC, the concept was floated that they should continue to remain in the northeast/ midwest. Adding Toledo, Marshall and NIU would be a convenient way of keeping the BE regional, resolving the MAC issue as the remaining schools drop to 1-AA as a conference, and leaving enough schools for CUSA to become a southern conference. While compared to the "add Florida schools" approach this may reduce the BE TV appeal on first glance, many of the MAC schools offer similar potential and easier travel prospects for fans. Given the simplicity of this approach, it's assured to never see the light of day. ;D ;D

Gunner, I like the elegant simplicity of this idea. I would want to add Miami (O) for its academics, its history, & for the occasional strong team in fields. Although it doesn't bring a big market, it brings a touch of class & draws its student body broadly from throughout the state. Its fb & hoops teams have been better than Bowling Green's over the past 10 years & almost as good as Toledo in football, better in hoops.

BlackGold, thanks for your post.Your current take on the BE reconstruction and expansion situation is similar to what I have been hearing for sometime.Apparently the BE BB and FB factions want/need to stay together and will attempt to use a tourniquet & bandaid on the FB portion instead of the major surgery that is indicated.
The plan that you outline also sounds like an attempt to emphasize BB at the expense of FB.
As you are well aware,no actual votes have been taken. If the BE FB schools "actually approve" this plan, they will only have themselves to blame for the consequences of their actions.Comments?

Twould be good for the BE all around to have Army/Navy around as a pair to give stability to the football part of the conference, and give some much needed television contract clout. Hope this direction is now more possible and is pursued vigorously...

:D
