The compromise, as I see it would be for the BE to agree with 1 or 2 teams to schedule all their O-O-C games with the BE. If the schools had a good enough winning %, they would be allowed to join the new BE FBC when it split off. The schools would not be risking anything, since they would still be members of their current conference.

While I do not believe Army or Navy would add anything to the conference in FB, they might like the opportunity schedule 4 games each with the BE in order balance the home and home schedules.

FBfan, interesting speculation.

In an abstract way, the hypothetical Army-Navy connection is an idea that seems to be bounced about lately. It certainly ties in to Tighershark's repeated theme.

I see the two eastern service academies being able to last as independents in football because who they are. Both have that national name recognition and tradition.
They both want to selectively schedule, which does not eliminate an allowed number of 1-AA opponents, at times. While Navy, for example, wants to maintain their rivalry each year with Notre Dame, it is not improbable to see Rice, Delaware, Temple, and Colgate, for example popping up on either schedules. They are also playing more MAC types. They are both attempting to schedule strategically, hopefully offering themselves certain games that give them solid chances to win.

By location, since both Army and Navy are located in the geographic east, it stands to reason that certain schools, such as Rutgers, may have OOC games with the service academies. However, to formalize this as part of a BE planned scheme, that is going to another level that may not be a part of any real design. It is more probable, the sceduling activity will function within the confines of agreements of scheduling by individual schools, as opposed to conference dictate whereby there is no control over non-members.

On the other hand, for BE conference members, there may be expectations as to the OOC opponents that are scheduled. Among other things, the BE did press Temple awhile back about their OOC scheduling in terms getting them to play more formidable/profitable games. Apparently that effort failed when taking into account the other expectations with Temple that did not materialize.
