Gotta think that they're going to vote to join since it's for all-sports

If Temple is pressed to join the BE for the 2012 fb schedule, then some of the 20 million the BE received from WVU exiting early, should be directed to the MAC, and possibly the A10 (depending on when they move per bb)
as well, to cover the urgent scheduling for all directly involved. Other BE fb schools could help with 2012 fb scheduling by agreeing to play certain MAC opponents if accommodations are available.

Temple Board Chair, O'Connor, questioning why Temple was so down the line in being offered a spot by the BE seems very appropriate.

Villanova will be nursing their new litter of kittens.

I suspect that what transpired, is that the Board of Trustees authorized someone (likely the school President) to do the following:

Conditionally accept an offer to join the BE for FB this fall, and all-sports either this fall or later.
Go ahead and negotiate terms of departure from MAC FB.
Go ahead and negotiate exit from Atlantic Ten (don't know why this would need to be accelerated beyond the normal notice the A-10 "requires").
Negotiate Big East entry fee minus some Big East subsidy of Temple's MAC FB departure fee.

Once all that is worked out (I would expect the parties have already had preliminary discussions), Temple / BE will issue a formal annoncement.

One member of the Temple BOT asked "why has this taken so long for Temple" ?

Obvious answer: Because that doofus John Marinatto has been in the hip pocket of BB schools like Villanova and his beloved Providence.

Sadly, back many moons ago, a Big east leader with vision could have invited: Temple, UCF, Houston, and TCU (or SMU) for all sports.
This would have created a nice 12 / 20 conference, that was second-to-one in BB, and somewhere between top tier and Mid-major in FB,
with enough FB talent that there should have been 3 or so top 25 teams every year.
That would've earned a very nice TV contract, and PERHAPS Pitt and Syracuse would not have been so eager to jump ship.
We'll never know the answer to that, but the leadership vacuum effectively pushed a bunch of self-respecting institutions out the door.

Regarding the cancelling of the other items on the agenda....

Suspect that these is a "sunshine law" that requires those items to be discussed in open session.
The Big East related stuff is of a sensitive nature, and typically a closed meeting session is permitted if
the discussion revolves arund sensitive negotiatins that would harm the university if made public.

This really looks like poor treatment of Temple again by the BE. It's telling them they can now come onboard after adding others earlier. But the clicker is added to have Temple ready for 2012 BE fb.

Oh, and Temple, as it currently appears, is to foot the bill to accept this. Entering the conference should be gleeful, not a burden and painful.

The MAC has been good to Temple, after they were cast into the wilderness. It gave them the opportunity to improve their fb product.

The BE may be doing the best they can under the current circumstances, but it yields an impression of deficient and factional-favoring management going back a long time. Perhaps managing a hybrid is extraordinarily difficult; however, they chose it, and regulated to cope with the consequences.

If Temple ends up saying no for 2012 fb, is the BE going to East Carolina next with the same proposal?

You might be reading too mauch into this.....

I don't think we should have expected an announcement yesterday.
I suspect Temple will join for all sports.
The exit fee for the A-10 is apparently more straight-forward, and moving Temple's "Olympic sports" could wait until 2013....
The exit from the MAC is messy....
7 or 8 games have to be cancelled, and Temple / MAC has to determine is it's all Temple-MAC games, and what difficulties the MAC schools have in replacing them.
So I think the next step is a determination of Temple's 2012 exit fee from the MAC, and taking that back to the Big East.

Has the Big East charged anyone an "entrance fee" ?
I wouldn't expect the BE to pick up the tab for Temple leaving the A-10 / MAC, UNLESS THEY ARE DOING IT EARLY AT THE BEHEST OF THE BIG EAST.
This is clearly the case in terms of leaving the MAC football league.
So the BE should be willing to help defray the cost by reducing / eliminating any entrance fee, and / or subsidizing the MAC exit fee.

Because the contract is between the MAC and TEMPLE, it is Temple's place to deal with breaking the contract (NOT the Big East's).
So the ball is properly in Temple's court regarding that settlement.
And I think that's where we are right now. Once all the terms and conditions have been settled, THEN we should prepare for an official announcement.

The timing of the BE offer is owned by the BE. The response time is Temples'. The offer to Temple followed a decline by Boise State and considered others if they could quickly move to a 2012 fb schedule.

Certainly if there is anything conditional, and not acknowledged yet, it shall get revealed soon. While the BE is not a party to the MAC-Temple contract and terms and conditions; they could, if supported, be financial contributors on the behalf of Temple in a negotiated settlement.

Much of the motive is about a WVU replacement per 2012 fb scheduling; those exit funds, it is assumed, are geared, in large part, to assist members with re-scheduling activity. Depending on the by-laws and the agreement with affected parties, a conference should have some flexibility per disbursements. Note, Temple would be the single most impacted school per re-scheduling, and Temple's prior MAC opponents and future BE opponents would have to make at least single school adjustments. However, Temple simply taking WVU's former conference schedule may not work precisely, due to timing conflicts and the dates of OOC games (WVU dropped a game with FSU over OOC date), of which some may have to be cancelled or changed based on timing. It is late trying to do this, but perhaps could be achieved with considerable costs.

Butler to the A-10? MAC adds fb only like Charlotte in a few years? Or adds all sports like App St. or Illinois St.?
