The other U of Missouri satellite campuses (St. Louis, Science & Technology (formerly "Rolla")) are both D-2.

Not sure about the veracity of that last statement "our athletics programs are doing very well".

I thought that was the reasoning for UMKC's ill-advised move from the Summit to the WAC a few years ago....

They "tangentially" mention the idiotic decision in to move from Summit League to WAC in 2013.

Hopefully, as the committee goes through their progressions, that will be obvious low-hanging fruit to cut department costs.

I would think the Summit would gladly take them back, as they tuck so nicely into their foot-print, and the Summit may face a "numbers crunch" if and when IPFW and / or Western Illinois move to a conference situated further east.

It seems like the committee will brilliantly come to this conclusion, but they have to do it in a way that "saves face" for the college administrators that made the bizarre move to the WAC.

if umkc returns to the summit...chicago state goes elsewhere...utrgv goes to the southland conference (if they start football)...& with the addition of cal baptist...then perhaps ucsd can be coaxed into joining the wac with a better travel arrangement than they had before...

maybe ucsd can convince some friends from the CA Collegiate Athletic Assoc. like San Franscisco St. and/or Cal Poly-Pomona and/or Cal State-Los Angeles to come with them to the wac...they could reconstitute the wac as a western based conference...

it seems that things may be aligning for ucsd to be more open to joining the wac...depends on how desperate ucsd is to go to d1...if ucsd can get over themselves and joins the wac for now it could possibly work out...but a few things need to fall into place for that to happen...

just a thought...

i would be inclined to agree with your analysis tute79...it seems that the superficial best move would be for umkc move back to the summit...there has already been a precedence set when oral roberts was allowed to come back after a couple of years in the southland...granted we don't have the inside information that the umkc administration does...

as far as the committee "saving face"...the decision was made by those who thought that they knew better than everyone else by moving umkc from the summit to the wac...there's a lot of pride, politics, and sociopathic behavior involved...they are not willing to admit or acknowledge that they made a mistake...they would rather blame someone else or force the issue through even though it wasn't for the benefit of the university as a whole...

once the ovc or mvc make their moves in the near future the summit may hit that "numbers crunch" that you predicted...with the potential loss of ipfw and/or w. illinois perhaps that would encourage the summit to take umkc back...or maybe even take chicago state too...depending on how desperate the summit gets...
