tute,

I think Hurd is a long-time WAC guy who was made acting commish when Benson left. I agree with sec03 that he has been doing all he can, but just was given a really crappy situation to work with.

Right now he has to be devoting his full effort toward persuading Idaho to stay in the WAC. Last week when they received "permission to make a decision" they indicated they wanted to make the decision within about 3 weeks. In short, if Idaho agrees to stay, Hurd has a reasonable chance of keeping the WAC afloat, at least for a few years, but if Idaho leaves then his prospects look dim. I'm not very optimistic on this because I think Idaho has already signaled its intention, but at least we'll know soon.

I do think that if Hurd somehow can "pull a rabbit out of his hat" here, he deserves to be made full commissioner for as long as there is a WAC.

At this point, we all just need to hope the Big Sky continues it's moves and in the process, shows some empathy for the 4 left-over schools, 3 after Idaho. Seattle, Denver and NSMU might not be ideal, but you'd find those 3 schools thrilled and proud to join the Big Sky if they were the only lifelines. Granted, we'd be talking one pretty big conference for such a low level quality of basketball compared to the Big East. Since the Southland isn't banging down NMSU door (and vise versa) and Seattle a bit out there in location, only Denver seems to have any type of potential 2nd option...the Summit.

Just have to hope there is enough time. GCU would fit in nicely into the footprint, give some PHX access.

So the plan would be to merge the remnants of the WAC & Great West (maybe minus NJIT) & Grand Canyon ?

Let's say Idaho goes to Big Sky (would NMSU get the same offer, or does Idaho give the BSC even numbers and that's enough ?)

You might have Seattle, Denver, NMSU (?), UVU, UTPA, Chicago St. (?), GCU, CSU-B (?)
Do you need 8 now, or just 7 ? Would Chicago State need to be invited, or are they too far east (and/or undesirable for other reasons) ?

i would think it would make sense for the WAC to be the surviving entity, since they currently have an automatic bid to the NCAA D-1 BB tournament.

You'd think the WAC could take over sponsorship of other sports currently run by the Great West.

GCU isn't a currently active member of D-I and won't be for several years. I think the WAC needs Chicago State.

Picking up Chicago State can make adding another D-II school from the Missouri Valley (the region, not the conference) viable.

Are all these schools FULL Division 1 members? Don't you need 7 full D1 members to have an automatic bid?

I believe Seattle is the most recent move up to D-I in the WAC, as they achieved full D-I status on July 1.

I know the answer is no, but did anyone see my Spartans tonight?! They probably should have knocked off Stanford tonight.

where the hell is the Pac 12 network, I couldn't find the game on. I found CFL though. I saw the score, 20-17. This is the 1 year that SJSU can win the WAC title, probably down to SJSU and Utah St.

I was watching on the internet. It'll be SJSU, USU, and La Tech and we host both. La Tech at SJSU November 24, could be the WAC championship.
