not bloody likely, but note the current and former (future?) ties to the Atlantic Sun Belt...(number could be trimmed if football is added/reinstated at Texas schools)...

Arkansas-Little Rock (W)
Charleston (E)
Georgia State/Kennesaw State (E)
Lamar (W)
New Orleans (E)
North Carolina-Wilmington (E)
North Florida (E)
South Alabama (E)
Texas-Arlington (W)
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (W)
Texas-Pan American (W)
Texas-San Antonio (W)

The only (& biggest) hurdle to this is the loss of an automatic-bid (unless the Southland adds TAMU-CC & UTPA, in which case there could be an auto-bid from the Southland Conference that they "take").

This conference wouldn't be solid enough year-in and year-out to get an At-Large invite.

However, with the Football schools now holding the voting power in the SBC, the basketball schools might start getting frustrated and want out.

Yeah this is pretty much a pipe dream idea due to current restrictions on automatic berths to the NCAA Tournament ("Holy Grail") but it seems like all of the schools are either "basketball" schools in "football" conferences (e.g. UALR, Charleston, Lamar, New Orleans, USA, UTA, UTSA) or will be geographically (e.g. Georgia State, UNCW) or possibly demographically (e.g. Kennesaw State, North Florida) in the near future...if not for the 6/5 (obviously a big "if") it would seem as though an ultimate shake-out were inevitable...

I'm not sure that going East is the best idea. Drop GSU/KSU, UNCW, Charleston and UNF and add Oral Roberts and Centenary to the lineup. Travel costs would be minimized, and regional rivalries would grow.

Georgia State and UNCW are geographically misplaced in the 12-team CAA...Kennesaw State and North Florida would be "institutionally" misplaced in the Atlantic Sun...

This would pretty much set off nuclear realignment:

Eastern Division:
Arkansas-Little Rock
New Orleans
South Alabama
East Tennessee State (from A-Sun)
Centenary (from Mid-Con)
Georgia State (from CAA)

Western Division:
Texas-Arlington
Texas-San Antonio
Lamar (Welcome back from Southland)
Texas A&M Corpus Christi (from Independent)
Oral Roberts (from Mid-Con)
Denver (or Texas-Pan American if Denver finds a new home)

In a football-free Sun Belt, UNT, ASU, ULL, and ULM go the WAC (or the Southland if anyone is forced to downgrade); FAU, FIU, MTSU, and Troy would go the Conference USA (or Big South); WKU would head to the OVC (or the MAC if they upgrade).

No way would Western Kentucky go to the OVC. They are waiting on the Missouri Valley Conference.

Also why would any of the football playing Sun Belt schools have to find a new home? Thats 7 schools and a solid conference. Its a good idea for one that won't go anywhere. First, UALR, New Orleans, and South Alabama are fine in the Sun Belt and other Sun Belt members are fine with them. Second look for the Sun Belt to add one more football school (Hello LA Tech or if Georgia Southern moves up) Also look for Western Kentucky to go the MVC or possibly the MAC(highly unlikly).

More likely.

Sun Belt Conference
West
Arkansas St
Arkansas-Little Rock
Louisiana-Lafayette
Louisiana-Monroe
New Orleans
North Texas

East
Florida Atlantic
Florida International
Georgia Southern
Middle Tennessee
South Alabama
Troy

Not really. I got the Western Kentucky stuff from Hilltopper fans. They like the MVC better than the MAC.

Based on current administration mindset, I would expect APP State to move to IA before GSU.

Apologies for not giving credit where credit is due (i.e. not extending "South Belt" Conference beyond the reaches of CST)...hey, at least no duplicate link was posted as its own subject thread...

While Centenary and Oral Roberts would be better geographic fits than in the Mid-Con, they would be their own respective "institutional islands"....

Hear any good D-II stuff lately? Last thing I really heard was about GNC members possibly becoming football members of the NCC? Haven't heard anything on Presbyterian...

Any thoughts on "Conference 32?"

CONFERENCE 32
Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne
Longwood
North Dakota State
Northern Colorado
South Dakota State
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
Texas-Pan American
Utah Valley State

Thank you for admitting your mistakes Ouija.

Agreed on that. At least when I did my latest full-scale realignment of D-I, I put the two in a new league that had members of a similar ilk to ORU and Centenary.

More insights on the GNC-NCC football tie-in here:
http://grandforks.com/mld/grandforks/sports/20871790.htm

It's odd that only the Washington schools are trying to get involved, and that Humboldt State and WOU are being left out. As far as Presby goes, have not heard anything lately as well.

The one new thing that has popped up recently was the formation of the Great Lakes Football Conference. Central State(OH), Missouri-Rolla, St. Joe's(IN), Tiffin and Upper Iowa are the members. Hope to have a link to the league soon.

This is just plain dumb, so I refuse to comment on it.

Oh, almost forgot to mention that the PacWest(D-II) will split up as Montana State-Billings and Western New Mexico are joining the Heartland Conference next year. [snicker]Heh, try to organize a conference streching from the Arizona border to Jefferson City, MO![/snicker]

Mr. Rawk, I suspect that link has transitioned into an archive. Can you check on that?

All I'd say otherwise is that it's not the first time that Southern Oregon and Humboldt State were treated like stepchildren. They seem to have that effect on people lately. I think it's just being too far south of the other relevant northwest schools and too far north of like-minded California schools.
