I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure SE Louisiana intends to rejoin the Southland conference in football.
S.E.Louisiana already has a guaranteed place in the Southland; they are just playing a couple of seasons as an football independent before jumping into conference play. Rumours are that U.T.-San Antonio may start a football program and eventually join the SLC as well.
The MEAC didn't screw Morris Brown or Savannah St. by not inviting them to join, but they did screw Florida A&M after the Rattlers announced their intentions to move up to 1-A. It was understandable that FAMU would not be allowed to compete for the league title in football while they were transitioning, but the spiteful MEAC folks also declared that FAMU would be ineligible to compete for any other league champioships.
After counting the costs to move up, FAMU has apparently reconsidered & will remain in 1-AA as a member of the MEAC.
Savannah St., a longtime member of the Div.II SIAC, probably jumped the gun by moving up when they did; but they might still be able to become a football member of the Big South. It's not likely they would be invited for all sports, however.
As for Morris Brown: they screwed themselves! They didn't have the facilities or the funds to compete on a higher level, but thought that moving up would provide more exposure & bring in more income. Instead, they were found to have misappropriated millions of dollars in government funds, among other types of gross mismanagement, and had to shut down their athletic program.
