Interesting topic and commentary, Mr. "0"!
The bb Lady Techsters keep LA Tech on the sports map more than any of their other athletic programs. LA Tech does have a conference issue.
They are not at SEC or Big 12 levels for all-around reasons; but they were beaten out by UTEP for the #12 C-USA spot when TCU left for the MWC.
LA Tech does not want to go back to the SunBelt with LA-L and LA-Monroe. That is somewhat understandable; for demographic purposes and imagery. While close rivals are important, too many like schools from a particular state can render constraining factors as well.
An opening in C-USA in the future is possible and LA Tech may want to position themselves for that opportunity. If LA Tech stays in the WAC, they, and the conference, would be helped by a new bridge team located in Texas. North Texas comes to mind, but they opted to stay in the SunBelt.
As some others have reflected on as well, there could be a future C-USA split and a re-emergence of the "Old Southwest" in another form. This could include LA Tech and most of the schools currently in the western division of C-USA.
In the eastern C-USA division, some current SunBelt teams may be added if there is a C-USA split or future re-vamping. Interesting factors in all this henge on any further expansion moves by the MWC, and/or even the Big East, which will trigger the rippling.
