Why did I forget Seattle University in my previous western D-1 basketball discussion? They had been D-1 previously, and had been in the WCC until they bailed for D-2. I recall this not being the first rumor of them seeking to move back up.

The end of the linked article is also very intriguing. Pepperdine, which is kind of the black sheep of the WCC in the first place (non-Catholic), is apparently rumored to be leaving. This already has WAC fans talking about them. Is this the end of the "8 most comfortable non-major schools outside the Ivy" designation?

What WAC fans are thinking: http://mb9.scout.com/fcfnfrm13.showMessage?topicID=702.topic

To make things a bit interesting, Seattle was in the NAIA when they left D-I.

Seattle would be a good addition to the wcc. Maybe Pacific or Denver could go along. Pepperdine would never go to the wac they would look at the big west.

I could see Pepperdine going to the Big West.

That puts the WCC down to 7, however. I don't think they'd add 2 to go to 9. So probably just Seattle in that scenario.

If Pepp. stays, however, I would think it'd be realistic for them to add both Seattle and Denver (even though Denver isn't catholic).

Supposedly, this lad at USF is well-connected.

Choosing from among Seattle U, Pacific, and Denver. I probably shouldn't be surprised that Pacific is seeking membership. I'm "possibly" surprised the WCC has let Denver lurk this long.

Seems to be an assumption in some quarters that Pepperdine is NOT leaving. What happens with that, who knows? I tend to think the WCC wouldn't be doing this if Pepperdine weren't an issue.

Gonzaga would vote against 10, unless WCC plans not to play a full home-and-home schedule. They want more games against top drawer schools.

THEREFORE, anything can happen.

In this case, anything = nothing.

Translation: Pepperdine didn't take the bait, and Gonzaga didn't want to lose OOC schedule options.
