With the SoCon already down to 11 and Georgia Southern and Appalachian St looking at the Sunbelt and Davidson and possibly Elon and others looking at a basketball-centric conference I think the the OVC should try to get UT-Chattanooga and Samford to jump over. It would make for an 11 member fb conference and 14 for all sports provided that no one cherry-picks Belmont.

Belmont is the lead dog for the MVC spot, so it would be 11/13

If Belmont leaves maybe they can give Western Illinois a call---it would bring them to 12/14. They could do North and South Divisions for football and possibly Olympic sports as well. Olympic sports divisions might have to be a little different because both non-fb schools (SIU-E and Morehead St) both fall in the North.

Just recapping...

Assuming Belmont leaves for MVC, App St/GA SO go to SBC, and Davidson + a friend or two get an invites elsewhere.

Top fb picks:
UT-Chattanooga (from SoCon)
Samford (from SoCon)

Possible fb picks:
Western Illinois (from Summit/MVFC)
East TN State (from ASun/starting fb)
Kennesaw State (from ASun/starting fb)
Mercer (from ASun/might add scholarship fb)
North Alabama (D2 upgrade/Gulf South)

Possible non fb picks:
Lipscomb (ASun)
Northern Kentucky (ASun)

Geographically, EKU seems like a good fit for the Sun-Belt #12 slot.

Then you have the EKU President Benson, and the
Sunbelt Conference Commissioner Benson....

any relation ? hmmm.....

JMU may be shooting themselves in the foot....
Not sure CUSA (or whomever JMU thinks desperately needs to expand with JMU + one other)
has a need / desire to expand.
The Sun-Belt may be the only game in town for some time to come.
I can understand JMU not having rivals or liking the travel in the Sun-Belt, but they seem awfully choosy at this point...
the MAC is back to an even number. So is CUSA. JMU may wind up "all dressed up, and no place to go".

Saying they don't have an invitation isn't saying much. You're encouraged to apply and the invitation is a formality upon that urged application. If you're holding a forum about upgrading and it's to this level, it's because you're going to announce something this Summer or Fall. It's in the bag for EKU...just a question of who makes the announcement.

SBC board is saying JMU and Missouri St. have invites, no links of course. EKU has the most smoke of the 4 names that keep getting cycled through the SBC as #12

I'm also getting the vibe that EKU may be crossing the T's and dotting the I's.
They've kept it low-key.

From all indications, JMU told the Sun-Belt "thanks, but no thanks" some time ago.

The rumors about Liberty have the flavor of being generated by someone at Liberty,
hoping that "wishful thinking" can make this a "self-fulfilling prophecy".
We should know more in about a month.

If it's EKU, then the OVC is down to 12. Do they stay there, or perhaps invite NKU and Northern Alabama ?
