Unless the OVC changes their current policy it will not be North Alabama or any other D2 School.
At the Spring 2014 meeting the OVC announced the following.
BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – The Ohio Valley Conference concluded its annual Conference Spring Meetings last Friday in Nashville. The event ran May 27-30.
It was determined as a guiding membership philosophy that the Ohio Valley Conference would not consider any institution for membership that is currently not a member of Division I.
That philosophy seems a bit ambitious for a conference that is near the bottom of their respective level of DI fb. Are they only planning on grabbing schools from the Big South or Pioneer League?
Effectively, yes. The next member will likely be Kennesaw State - close enough to be a short trip from the Nashville area schools, but not so close it duplicates markets or recruiting grounds.
The wildcard might be taking a non-football school like Lipscomb, especially if Morehead State is planning to add football scholarships - that would keep the 9/12 alignment.
If both the MAC and Sun Belt expand to 14, the OVC might even have more openings IF the CAA can still raid the SoCon - replace James Madison in the CAA with Furman, and the SoCon may be coming for Jacksonville State or Tennessee Tech. Of course the SoCon would probably add Charleston Southern or Presbyterian if that ever came to pass . . .
