Even though Idaho has pretty much sucked for years...it would still be sad for them to drop a level.
Based on their upcoming OOC schedule for the next 7 years, you can tell that their AD has been working overtime to help provide a future for the team.
Over the next 7 seasons the Idaho OOC schedule has this going for it: (28 OOC games)
11 MWC schools
7 P5 schools (B1G, SEC, PAC)
2 MAC schools
1 AAC school
1 CUSA school
1 FCS school
They are keeping their FCS games to a minimum which should help their strength of schedule. They are maximizing their exposure to the MWC which will pay them well and keep their travel low, also fan travel is increased by staying regional. They take on some real paydays by playing one P5 school per year(average). They have chosen some close PAC schools in Wash and WSU, a lower level of success school like Indiana and a few tougher ones in Fla, Penn St and Missouri. IF they Vandals could string together some high win totals against this level of competition...that would be a miracle.
Idaho only has 5 openings remaining in their OOC schedule out of 28 total spots over the next 7 years.
Scheduling won't change their trajectory, but at least they have some really good games to look forward to and something to recruit with.
Could they go Indy again? They could have a leg up...if their AD is as good at scheduling as it appears. It would take a ton of work, though. Hopefully, they can take a bit more time with the SBC to establish some more momentum in the right direction.
