Here's a new starting point for the MEAC talk. With all the recent Savannah St, NCCU, and WSSU rumors...

Put Savannah St. & NCCU in, hope that WSSU keeps it together and they're all set.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C., March 10, 2010 - The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) announced today that Savannah State University has been extended provisional membership to the MEAC beginning July 1, 2010, as voted on by the conference's Council of Chief Executive Officers (CCEO's).

A press conference is set for 5 p.m. on Friday, March 12, in the post game interview room of the Joel Coliseum. An additional press conference will take place on Wednesday, March 24 in Savannah, Georgia.

"We are pleased to extend membership and welcome Savannah State University to the MEAC family," said MEAC Commissioner Dennis E. Thomas. "The addition of SSU keeps us in compliance with our long range and strategic plan of adding up to 14 members. Adding SSU to the membership completes the geographical footprint that bridges our South Carolina and Florida institutions."

as Savannah state is a provisional member for a year how will it work out? will they play a conference schedule in basketball but not eligible for the tournament or will they play a independent schedule for the upcoming season? I would think football would be out of the question as some schools released schedules already.

I'm kinda surprised about this. While I know MEAC and SWAC schools are hurting I thought that Savannah State would have dropped when it was a independent. Fox Sports has a similar page here:

I'm wondering how financially hurt the school is. They usually play 2 money games a year. Though isn't FCS 11 games and not 10? Last two years they have played 10 games in football.

It's official. Savannah State University is dropping from D1 to D2. No word in the article about SSU rejoining the SIAC when they become eligible in D2.
