The article says they are interested in MVFC and Summit. No mention any discussion with the MVC. The MVC has never been in the picture for UND

I think it's about time that North Dakota to find a better home that benefits on both aspects: a.) geographic fit and b.) bigger competition Especially since dealing with their nickname issue of dropping the "Sioux" name a few years back. Should the newly-rebranded Fighting Hawks join the MVFC/SL (Summit), it would also bring back their natural rivalries with the other Dakota schools (especially with powerhouse North Dakota St.) since their D-II days; plus with former fb.-sponsoring school Nebraska-Omaha. So far, North Dakota is playing impressive in football, with chances to make into the D-I FCS playoffs.

They wanted to join the Summit and MVFC all along.
Summit was resistant 5 years ago, due to the NCAA legal fighting over the FIGHTING SIOUX nickname.

So the Big Sky invited Southern Utah, South Dakota, and North Dakota, and all of a sudden the Summit and MVFC swooped in and also invited South Dakota only.
South Dakota took the Summit / MVFC invitation, and the Big Sky was sort of stuck with North Dakota.

So the MVFC is sitting at 10 teams - pretty sure they play a 9-game round-robin.

Summit could easily add North Dakota - they're a perfect fit, if all the animosity over the Fighting Sioux pissing contest is over with.

Proceedurally, North Dakota will want to have invites from both the Summit and the MVFC in hand, before they submit any paperwork to exit the Big Sky.
That's where they are now.
They may need to do a selling job to some of the eastern members of the MVFC, who aren't as enamored with travelling out to the Dakotas.
North Dakota would be the 11th team in the MVFC. I wonder if there is a 12th team (like perhaps Wichita State starting up FCS football),
that might support allow the MVFC to split into 6 team divisions East and West ?

It might be possible, if that 12th school comes along with North Dakota.

Wichita State could join the AAC ASAP.

Navy is #12 now, but only has football.
Wichita State (everything BUT football) + navy would make 1 complete member (#12).

That works for NOW.

The problem is the ever-changing landscape, and if the AAC had to do the Navy invitation all over again (that was Marinatto, not Aresco) they might not.
The partial member teams create lots of planning issues when the membership situation is in flux.

WSU tucks into the AAC very nicely, as it stands RIGHT NOW.

The BB travel partners would line out very neatly....
UConn - Temple
Cincy - ECU
UCF - USF
Memphis - Tulane
SMU - Houston
Tulsa - Wichita State...

Long-term issues are:
1) If Greg Marshall goes elsewhere, will WSU suck ?
2) If there is more realignment down the road, does the AAC want to be stuck with a non-FB team (see old Big East hybrid situation) ?

Other possibility for AAC would be to add UMass (full member) and Army (FB only) to give 12 / 14.
Five years ago, Army apparently felt they could not compete in AAC after horrible years in CUSA.
This year, Army beat Navy, and actually won a bowl game yesterday.
Is it possible, Army may re-think their position ?

I wouldn't put much faith into that opinion piece. This is an longtime Wichita native telling us what he thinks, while lacking much in the way of convincing evidence to back up his claims.
