Thanks freaked. Pretty good basic piece. Doesn't expect the world to change much for Hofstra just sound wishful thinking.

Fast forward since the AE4 joined the CAA and then Northeastern later on and I'm starting to think that some of the moves might not be ideal. At the time they were. But looking now, I think both the CAA and America East might look better if only Delaware and Towson had left the AE for the CAA:

Hofstra, Drexel and NU would have better shots at the tourney that they do now (since Drexel and Hofstra had a great deal of success in their final days in the AE). And the CAA would be better focused in their footprint...

America East: from North to South regionally:
Maine
UNH
Vermont
Boston University
Northeastern
Hartford
Albany
Binghamton
Hofstra
Stony Brook
Drexel

CAA:
Delaware
Towson
* Richmond
VCU
George Mason
JMU
Old Dominion
William & Mary
UNCW
Georgia St

If you mean perfect conditions as in "the only way in hades we've got a good chance at an NCAA bid", that might be sooner than later. I'm wondering if the lack of mid-major at-large bids to the NCAA may have some of these 12-14 team leagues paring down a bit and teams going back to lower mid-major conferences.

Article out of Virginia that speculates that the CAA will eventually add Fordham and Stony Brook in order to geographically "balance out" a northern FB division.Link at http://hamptonroads.com/2009/06/additon ... g-soon-caa

That would just make SO MUCH sense.
It would pull almost all of the CAA - AE - A10 football schools together in a nice North-South alignment.
The only scholly FCS teams from AE and A10 that would be outside of this 16 team CAA FB league would be
Albany (AE, plays in the NEC) and Duquesne (A10, plays in the NEC).
I keep thinking that it's odd that Albany isn't ultimately pursuing the same set-up as Stony Brook.
Wouldn't they be big rivals ?

Fordham seemed to give the patriot League an ultimatum, and didn't mind when the Patriot gave them a "don't let the door hit you on the butt, on you're way out". You wouldn't make Fordham's move, if you didn't think there was somewhere else to go.... which makes me feel there is some credibility to this story.

Stony Brook's commitment to the Big South is thru 2010, when Presbyterian comes aboard the Big South and can maintain a 6-team deal to preserve the Big South's AQ in the FCS playoffs. Campbell recently announced a move to the Big South, and you have to assume they are being presssured to go from the non-scholly Pioneer League to FCS football in the Big South.

I wonder if ultimately Georgia State won't want to shift to the SoCon or Big South ?

Tute79,thanks for the post.
There has been so much speculation lately regarding possible future CAA realignment that one must wonder if there is something to it?

Another article out of Providence(looks like a sister article to one posted by Quinn in another thread)with comments by Rhode Island AD Thorr Bjorn regarding the possibility of future CAA realignment. He speculates regarding the future possibility of the NE CAA schools breaking off to form their own FB conference.Article mentions possibility of UNCC joining the CAA in the future.Link at http://www.projo.com/uri/content/projo- ... 2a619.html
