Everyone is looking at the schools that the CAA could add, but there's also a good possibility that the America East could try to protect their turf and aggressively go after three non-football playing schools. My guess is Northeastern, Hofstra and Drexel. Would make a nice compact 12 team league. North: Vermont, Maine, UNH, Northeastern, Boston U. Hartford. South: Albany, Binghamton, Stony Brook, Hofstra, Drexel, UMBC.

Per my man Brian Mulls blog article I am getting the vibe this is what he is looking at as the likely outcome:

Northeastern
Hofstra
Stony Brook
Delaware
Drexel
Towson

GMU
JMU
WMU
Davidson
UNCW
Charleston

CAA Football
Full Members: Stony Brook, Delaware, Towson, JMU, WMU
Affiliates: UNH, Maine, Villanova, Richmond

I think that would work

I read in one of these articles that they want at least 10 fb members in order to have 9 conference games, if no more full members I think Youngstown State might be the only other option (as the only non-Summit/MVC member in the MVFC) unless Fordham or Albany increases their scholarships...

If that is the CAA expansion, and those schools are willing to make the move, it takes 2 of the 3 non-FCS schools out of the SoCon.
Only UNC-Greenville would remain as a non-FB member.

If the SoCon wanted to go to All-Sports, they might wish UNCG were invited as well (maybe the CAA could take all 3 and go to 14).
Seems like SoCon might re-stock from Big South or maybe invite UNA.

Stony Brook may leave an opening for NJIT, and UNA might find a D-1 home as well.

If the SoCon loses 2, I wonder if they sit at 10 or if they go for 2 more. They'd have 9/10 setup. So 1 fb 1 w/o fb? CCU, Jacksonville St. could be options. They could go private school too, but who? If they don't think Liberty will ever get invited to the FBS they could take them. UNCA is in west NC and solid at bball, they could take them as a non fb member. Winthrop is another.

This one slipped past me: so, two days after saying Delaware was committed to the CAA, Delaware's AD says something very interesting. There's life down there, after all!

Quote:
In statement released by Delaware, UD athletic director Bernard Muir said he and university president Patrick Harker “are leading an internal team that has been engaged in a thorough evaluation of the evolving conference realignments and the implications for our student-athletes and the university.”

Muir would not comment beyond the statement, but The News Journal has learned high-ranking UD officials have at least discussed the possibility of moving the Blue Hens to the FBS.

“Obviously, we approach this process carefully and methodically and are working to appropriately assess all options before arriving at a decision,” Muir said.

“This due diligence process requires time to compile and review historical conference data, assess financial and personnel information, understand NCAA, conference and legal implications as well as appropriate potential transition plans and to make a recommendation to the UD Board of Trustees.”

Well, well, well.
