We do know that the CUSA east schools have felt alienated from the west/Texas group. The problem has been the numbers and the future. in my mind, CUSA will never do anything until the Big East does. In other words, there are so many BE scenarios that could effect CUSA schools again: 1) Big Ten expands with a BE school = BE takes a CUSA school, 2) Big East splits and invites 2-4 CUSA schools, 3) MWC expands and adds 1 to 3 CUSA schools...

CUSA schools will be hesitant to make any big moves with upgrades on their table. Sunbelt on the other hand, those schools will jump at any upgrade that comes like CUSA.

i too agree that the cusa will be hesitant to do anything. they are a marriage of convenience so while no one is extremely excited about the lineup no one is wanting to rock the boat either because no one knows what the big east will do (if they do anything)

getting it back on topic...ga st., with its focus on 1a football would be awesome for the sunbelt once they get going as they are a quality team and fit the geographic region. the sunbelt, who will likely be at 11 all sports and 10 for football once denver and uno leave, is in a prime position to be picky. i don't believe they will take just anyone but i do believe that ga st would make an excellent 11 for football and 12 for all sports leaving a football only slot for a team like charlotte to make 12 for football (as i believe charlotte will be unwilling to move everything to the sunbelt and the sunbelt will really not need them for all sports as long as arkansas little rock is in the conference). that way the boat is not rocked too much.

the caa can then pretty much decide which geographic direction they want to head once ga st is established in 1-a. they can go north and get a team like albany or stony brook to replace a sun belt bound ga st or they can look south and try to get an app. st from the socon or a coastal carolina from the big south.

Bad news for Fordham.

With Hofstra out, the CAA no longer needs to just find a replacement for the schedule. Now the league can just wait until ODU and GSU join and move Villanova and Delaware to the CAA North (Maine, UNH, UMass, URI, Nova, Delaware).

The longshot option would be to add both Stonybrook and Fordham and you'd have a CAA north of Maine, UNH, UMass, URI, Stonybrook and Fordham.

I think journalists need to take more responsibility in their writing than this (vs bloggers, message board posts).
Sure, we've all talked about a northeast based football conference. But if you are writing an article and saying the schools "should" for this league, you need to dig into the important info:

Umass, URI, Maine and UNH make a fine core. But it's not as simple as just grabbing those other schools. It also means convincing some of them, like Albany, to upgrade their program and increase their scholarship numbers. URI has budget problems too. So do they try to get the other schools to lessen their scholarships to make it a partial scholy league?
