I think you have to borrow one from Patriot, allowing for both Georgetown and Fordham types. Liberty's not in a place to be picky, imo. They'd be better off suing the NCAA over the upgrade rules.
When you say that do you mean bringing in affiliates like Fordham, who want to compete at a high level and offer the scholarships to do it as well as affiliates lie Georgetown, who are more takers than givers and are just interested in operating a football team on the cheap but you have no choice but to tolerate them because the conference needs football teams?
To me it seems like if they can't find any MEAC defectors, that Big South football needs to look at two pools of candidates: non-scholarship schools like Campbell, Jacksonville, Stetson, and Davidson and DII upgrades in Alabama, Georgia, and Florida.
They can't make any progress because the basketball schools aren't interested in expansion and 10 suits them just fine. Liberty is playing at a totally different level then the other 3 full member schools. It doesn't really benefit the SoCon, OVC, or NEC to bail any of those schools out and take them in as affiliates. A-Sun taking over football isn't an option because there isn't enough interest there either as their membership doesn't want to add football schools that will someday push them aside. So we are just stuck and the football programs involved are just hanging around on the outside.
