What does this move by Campbell mean for the rest of the conference? Could Belmont or Lipscomb be convinced by the Ohio Valley to join? Especially if Jacksonville State decides to follow Samford to the Southern Conference. Are these realistic possibilities, or am I off base?

They are all realistic enough that they've been on the Conference Realignment Grid...so i agree with you at least.

It is possible, but that all depends on what direction the OVC wants to go towards. It's doubtful Jax State will go to the SoCon until someone leaves there. Belmont or Lipscomb could go to make 12, but this means if a school were to leave they'd have to find a scholarship football school or coerce Morehead State to go back to scholly football. I'm also wondering if they would want to split up, or like being crosstown rivals to each other. I do eventually see them shedding ETSU, Belmont and Lipscomb to become kind of a Deep South version of the Big West.

Jax State probably won't leave the OVC unless someone leaves the SoCon to open up a spot. I could see either Belmont or Lipscomb coming in to set the OVC at 12, but this would put them in a squeeze to find another I-AA football school should JSU leave. But I also wonder whether Lipscomb or Belmont actually want to be separated, or whether they want to be closely linked crosstown rivals.

Eventually I could see those two schools and ETSU being shed and the conference becoming more of a Deep South version of the Big West.

Does a school have to be D-I for 8 years still to count as a core member? If I remember right the NCAA cut the Summit some slack on this back when Chicago St., Valpo left.

I think Oakland & IUPUI weren't core members yet they only had 5. Then they brought in NDSU & SDSU (still not core) and IPFW (became a core in 2008)

The database server (mysql) has been a bitch lately, to put it bluntly. The site is fine and regular speed, but the forums need to access the SQL server and there has been a hiccup of late. I'm just hoping it works itself out...

There has been talk of this on the ncaabbs board for a while. I hope they stick to the plan. We could see N.Kentucky, N.Alabama, Lincoln Memorial, LeMoyne and W.Georgia join D-I soon after the moratorium is lifted. This would offset the loss of WSSU, Centenary, and New Orleans. The others Oklahoma City, C.Oklahoma, Tarleton St., Grand Canyon, and Bellarmine have also been looking into D-I.
